When her unit was placed on isolation for two different issues and a lot of things had to be checked, Mercy completed every task with care, attention, and great accommodation. JULIA MARKOVA, MEDICAL ASSISTANT Julia does a great job covering almost all the clinics and employees’ physical exams and vaccinations. She did an outstanding job coordinating and implementing the hepatitis B tracking process – creating the database, starting the vaccinations, titer testing, and updating the vaccination database. EMPLOYEES OF THE MONTH SEPTEMBER JENNIFER GUMBOC, UNIT COORDINATOR Extremely competent and professional, Jennifer is also always helpful; even if she is assigned to a different floor, she will come to our assistance in a matter of minutes. Her knowledge, efficiency, and organizational skills make our job easier. It is a pleasure to work with her. DARREL MATA, SECURITY OFFICER Darrel was the security officer on the scene during the fire on August 13. He assisted with containing the fire, and made sure that the first responders, San Francisco Fire Department, arson investigators, and vendors knew where they were going. He also explained the nature of the incident to optimize response. Resident bibliophile Claire Shor BOOKS ARE THE BEST And Claire Shor would agree – which is why she completed the San Francisco Public Library’s Summer Reading Program, ratcheting up 40 hours worth of reading by August 11. (Claire usually reads at least four hours a day.) To take part in the Summer Reading Program, Claire made use of the local Excelsior library branch, conveniently located within walking distance of the Home. Her reading list ranged from Harper Lee’s classic To Kill a Mockingbird to the intimate memoir Tracy and Hepburn by Garson Kanin. A bonus prize for finishing the program was the choice of a book or a pass to the de Young Museum. No prizes for correctly guessing that bibliophile Claire chose a book! Recreational programs director Mediatrix Valera hopes to incorporate some of the activities available at the library in next year’s Summer Arts Festival.
