BOOKS ARE THE BEST
And Claire Shor would agree – which is
why she completed the San Francisco
Public Library’s Summer Reading
Program, ratcheting up 40 hours worth
of reading by August 11. (Claire usually
reads at least four hours a day.)
To take part in the Summer Reading
Program, Claire made use of the local Excelsior
library branch, conveniently located within
walking distance of the Home. Her reading
list ranged from Harper Lee’s classic To Kill a
Mockingbird to the intimate memoir Tracy and
Hepburn by Garson Kanin. A bonus prize for
finishing the program was the choice of a book
or a pass to the de Young Museum. No prizes
for correctly guessing that bibliophile Claire
chose a book!
Recreational programs director Mediatrix
Valera hopes to incorporate some of the
activities available at the library in next year’s
