Who we are and what makes us unique<br />

The Department of the Environment designs and<br />

implements the Australian Government’s policies and<br />

programmes to protect and conserve the environment,<br />

water and heritage and promote climate action.<br />

The environmental framework is being delivered under<br />

four pillars:<br />

• Clean land<br />

• National heritage<br />

What we look for in an employee<br />

In most cases it is essential that you specifically<br />

address each of the selection criteria for a position.<br />

The information you provide in your application must<br />

be clear and concise as it will be the basis for the<br />

selection of applicants.<br />

Graduate Program<br />

Our Graduate Programme offers you numerous<br />

benefits, the biggest being an introduction to the APS<br />

in a genuinely caring and supportive environment. Our<br />

programme has a good retention rate, with a high<br />

percentage of our graduates still employed many years<br />

after they have completed their graduate year. This is<br />

because the Department offers you interesting work,<br />

excellent work/life balance and a diverse and exciting<br />

work culture.<br />

• Three work rotations across the Department including<br />

the possibility of working in the Australian Antarctic<br />

Division in Tasmania, Kakadu National Park in the<br />

Northern Territory, Booderee National Park on the NSW<br />

South Coast, the Australian National Botanic Gardens in<br />

Canberra or the Supervising Scientist Division in<br />

Darwin.<br />

• A professional learning and development programme<br />

including $1 000 towards individual development.<br />

• One on one mentoring from executive and senior<br />

executive staff and a supportive environment in which<br />

to develop your personal and professional skills.<br />

• Excellent conditions in a department which values a<br />

work-life balance.<br />

• The possibility of site visits during rotation, providing<br />

you with the opportunity to experience the<br />

Department's policies and programmes at ground level.<br />

Application and Recruitment Process<br />

recruitment process is different for each position.<br />

components, including:<br />
