Who we are and what makes us unique<br />

The Arts <strong>Law</strong> Centre of Australia (Arts <strong>Law</strong>) is the<br />

national community legal centre for the arts. Arts <strong>Law</strong><br />

is a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee which<br />

was established with the support of the Australia<br />

Council for the Arts in 1983 to provide specialised legal<br />

and business advice and referral services, professional<br />

development resources, and advocacy for artists and<br />

organisations.<br />

Application and Recruitment Process<br />

If you are interested in a volunteer position, please fill<br />

out the application form, attach your CV and your<br />

current academic record and send to Arts <strong>Law</strong>. Please<br />

clearly label your attachments.<br />

Arts <strong>Law</strong> provides legal advice and information on a<br />

wide range of arts related legal and business matters<br />

including contracts, copyright, business structures,<br />

defamation, insurance, employment and taxation to<br />

artists and arts organisations across all art forms.<br />

Volunteer Program<br />

Daytime volunteers provide valuable assistance in<br />

various ways, including legal research and<br />

administration tasks.<br />

Daytime volunteers must commit to working one day<br />

per week at Arts <strong>Law</strong>’s Sydney office for a minimum<br />

period of 6 months.<br />

Daytime volunteers are usually final year law students<br />

and recent graduates. Knowledge and/or study of<br />

intellectual property or media law subjects is required.<br />

Volunteers sometimes attend document review sessions<br />

if the lawyer providing the document review requests a<br />

note-taker. The role of note-takers is to assist the<br />

volunteer lawyer by keeping detailed file notes of<br />

advice given.<br />

Generally, our note-takers are final year law students,<br />

recent graduates or junior lawyers. You are required to<br />
