World Reining Trophy <strong>2004</strong>:<br />
Australian Martin Larcombe wins NRHA Lawson Bronze Trophy Open -<br />
Jeanette Kraehenbuehl (Swizzerland) becomes Non Pro Champion<br />
Yesterday one of the most important shows of Europe (and in some respects of the world)<br />
ended at the HorseAcademy facility in Mooslargue (Alsace/France): the World Reining<br />
Trophy. With EUR 160,000.—added prize money, the show offered one of the largest<br />
amounts of money in the history of European reining attracting top horses and riders from all<br />
over the world. The World Reining Trophy <strong>2004</strong> proved that most of the NRHA ranking is<br />
decided in Europe this year considering the enormous amounts of prize money offered in this<br />
show and the following other European ones.<br />
190 horses had been nominated for this show with prize money finally being more than EUR<br />
181,000.-- altogether. Besides the reinings there were two cuttings. The EUR 15,000.—<br />
added Open Cutting was won by Italian Gianluca Munarini astride Acres of Time. The 8-yearold<br />
sorrel stallion by Bob Acre Doc out of an own daughter of Smart Little Lena ha won the<br />
Italian Futurity and was Americana Champion 2002. Gianluca Munarini had started and<br />
trained him. They demontrated great cutting ability scoring 222. Americana Masters Cutting<br />
Champion 1998 Smartin Off placed second with Sylvia Rzepka (Germany) in the saddle. The<br />
<strong>14</strong>-year-old son of Smart Little Lena was back in the showring for the first time after four<br />
years of pasture and breeding. Smartin Off has lost nothing of his former ability and charisma<br />
and proved that well at Mooslargue. Although they weren’t too lucky with their first cow, they<br />
receive 219 points and it was obvious that the stallion has much more potential (“The best<br />
cutting horse I’ve ever ridden,” says Sylvia Rzepka.) auf Platz 2.<br />
The French veterinarian Geoffroy Guillaume (Orleans) won the Non Pro Cutting astride<br />
Ninos Pudden Head, scoring 217 points. Carina Joosten (Germany) placed second astride<br />
Mighty Docs Playboy scoring 213.<br />
The Intermediate Non Pro Reining also went to France. Lawyer Yves Fromont (Lyons) won<br />
the EUR 5000,-- added class with his paint stallion Titan Texan, who was European Paint<br />
Horse Reserve Champion last year. The demonstrated a fine, harmonous ride scoring 213<br />
points. Belgian Cira Baeck placed second astride Don Quixote Escapes (211 points),<br />
Christine Berndorfer (Austria) placing third astride Bobs Manolla (210.5 points). In the<br />
Intermediate Open Category, Italian Christian Perez became Champion astride Star Tac<br />
Pride owned by Chiara Bonavolta, Italy. The Pepper Pride son, which is a full brother to Rum<br />
Olena, finally showed its real ability here scoring 224 points, the second highest score of the<br />
World Reining Trophy. Rieky Young (Netherlands) astride Burnt Starlight and Arno<br />
Honstetter astride Dunit Sugar Quixote (owner Wim Langendoen) placed second with 220<br />
points each.<br />
The climax of the show, however, were the NRHA Lawson Bronze Trophies. 52 horses had<br />
been nominated for the Non Pro Go Round, 20 of them proceding to the EUR 30 000.—<br />
added Non Pro final. The winner of this division was Jeanette Kraehenbuehl, Swizzerland.<br />
Jeanette is a member of the Swiss National team. Astride her 8-year-old stallion ARC Golden<br />
Boy, an Arcese-bred horse, she led the ranking of the go round scoring 217,5 and even<br />

improved in the final scoring 219. She showed a marvelous ride with long smooth stops, fine<br />
spins and great speed control. Winning the Non Pro Lawson Bronze Trophy and EUR 6475.-,<br />
Jeanette now places second in the NRHA ranking. The second place went to Cecilia<br />
Frediani, one of Italy’s best non pro riders, and Spanish Snapper (217 points), a Snapper Cal<br />
Bar son which demonstrated his great stopping ability here. Rosanne Sternberg (Great<br />
Britain) placed third astride her Nijomi Sonny Reb (215.5 points), a stallion which has<br />
probably won more AQHA reining points than any other horse (385).<br />
On Sunday afternoon, there was the final of the EUR 100 000.—added Open Bronze Trophy.<br />
63 riders had been in the go round – 215.5 points had been necessary to come into the final.<br />
Finally, 25 riders rode a final Europe has never seen before. Australian Martin Larcombe<br />
won the Trophy and more than EUR 25000.-- astride ARC Oak Enterprise. The stallion is<br />
another Arcese-bred horse. He is by Surprise Enterprise out of Sophie Oak and is owned by<br />
Cisal Quarter Horses (Italy). The multiple Bronze Trophy Champion ran a 218 in the Go<br />
round and topscored 226 points in the final showing phantastic stops diving deep into the<br />
sand, superb speed control and great spins. World Champion Shawn Flarida (USA) placed<br />
second astride Juergen Kalischinski’s As Smart As Charly (222,5). The third place went to<br />
Stefano Massignan (ITA) astride RS Vobinda and Martin Larcombe this time astride Red<br />
Chic Peppy – both scoring 221.<br />
The World Reining Trophy <strong>2004</strong> was a real milestone of European reining with optimal<br />
conditions for this sport on one of the most beautiful facilities of Europe. A show which will<br />
long be remembered!<br />
