sportQHTPalasturla - A Brand New Facilityfor International Reining (by Antonella Gliori)***** Thanks to the great ideas and efforts of somegreat horsemen, a brand new facility for the practiceand development of the reining industry (and not onlyfor that) was built in Italy at the very end of the year2004. The arena, which was ‘Palasturla’ after the nameof its owner, Giovanni Sturla, is definitely the newestfacility realized in order to host the most importantwestern international events in Europe. The need of abrand new facility has already been felt by the ItalianReiners, who were missing a place in which SpecialEvents and other international competitions could beorganized, able to welcome a great number of horsesand public, and easy to reach from all over Italy andEurope. Therefore, Mr.Eleuterio Arcese, NRHA Hall OfFamer, owner of the historical breeding facility ArceseQuarter Horses, and Mr.Giovanni Sturla, onwer ofthe AL.CLE Riding Centre, put their ideas and effortstogether to realize what could be considered the bestShow Arena in Europe, together with the one inKreuth. The facility is located near Manerbio and isextremely easy to reach, no matter where you comefrom. From the Highway 21 Brescia/Piacenza, exitManerbio, 100 km from Milan, 80 km from Verona, 40from Piacenza and only 15 from Brescia. The centreincludes a wide indoor arena, 80 x 40 m, with a closeindoor warm-up arena 60 x 30. The public can comfortablyfollow the show from one of 3000 sitting places, from the saloon or from the elegant bouvette, reservedto vip guests only. Moreover, the outside area is providedwith more then 400 stalls and a wide parking areafor trucks, trailers and cars. In addition, the alreadyexisting facility of the AL.Cle. Riding Centre, used tojump competitions, but already confident with Reiningand Cutting Horses (the facility hosted the past editionsof the Italian Cutting Futurity and all the Regionalreining shows), offers a good restaurant and barservice, plus comfortable rooms for people who needto sleep close to the horses during the shows. The brand new facility was unveiled for the firsttime in November, for the Italian Reining Horse AssociationFuturity, held from the 15th to the 20th ofNovember. The show was a great success, even aboveall expectation: the main guests from the States,Mr.Frank Costantini, Chairman of the FEI ReiningCommittee, and the NRHA President Kim Sloan, werepositively impressed by this brand new project. Therefore, the arena was chosen to be the host of the nextFEI World Reining Master Finals, which will be heldnext September, together with the edition of the IRHAMaturity Show. Moreover, all the special events of ItalianReining will be held here according to the showprogram:DERBY: 6TH- 8TH MAY 2005SUMMER SLIDE: 20TH-23TH JULYMATURITY:16TH-18TH SEPTEMBERFUTURITY:14TH-19TH NOVEMBERQUARTER HORSE TODAY 06/05 9
