6 AATF <strong>Annual</strong> <strong>Report</strong> <strong>2012</strong><br />

l The Water Efficient Maize for Africa (WEMA) Project holds its fourth<br />

annual review and planning meeting from 6–10 February in Polokwane,<br />

South Africa. The meeting was attended by over 60 participants with<br />

each project team presenting their 2011 activities and plans for <strong>2012</strong>.<br />

March<br />

l The Maruca-Resistant Cowpea Project holds its planning and review<br />

meeting in Accra, Ghana from 1–2 March and reviews progress made<br />

in the three project countries of Nigeria, Ghana and Burkina Faso in<br />

2011 and develops the <strong>2012</strong> work plan.<br />

l AATF and the International Centre for Insect Physiology and Ecology<br />

sign a partnership agreement on 5 March under the Integrated Striga<br />

Management in Africa Project to enable the two institutions undertake<br />

a survey on Striga weed management technologies in Kenya.<br />

l AATF and Japan Tobacco sign a license agreement allowing AATF to<br />

access the PureIntro® plant transformation technology for use in the<br />

Nitrogen Use Efficient Water Use Efficient and Salt Tolerant (NEWEST)<br />

Rice Project.<br />

l Cassava Mechanisation & Agro-processing (CAMAP) Project staff<br />

visit Brazil from 12–24 March to survey the available labour-saving<br />

production technologies that can address cassava production and<br />

processing constraints among smallholder farmers in SSA, identify<br />

possible partners and also negotiate for access and transfer of the<br />

technologies.<br />

AATF Board of Trustees visit the Bacterial Wilt-Resistant<br />

Banana Project confined field trial in NARO, Uganda in<br />

April <strong>2012</strong><br />

meeting in Kampala, Uganda<br />

from 18–19 April where<br />

members review AATF activity<br />

implementation progress and<br />

budgets and also receive<br />

other management reports.<br />

as Vice-Chair to the Board.<br />
