8 AATF <strong>Annual</strong> <strong>Report</strong> <strong>2012</strong><br />

Phase I of the project ran from March 2008 to February 2013.<br />

The review was conducted by consultants on behalf of the project<br />

donors, Bill & Melinda Gates <strong>Foundation</strong> and the Howard G. Buffet<br />

<strong>Foundation</strong>.<br />

l The Bacterial Wilt-Resistant Banana Project partners meet from 11–13<br />

July in Kampala, Uganda to review project progress and plan for <strong>2012</strong><br />

and 2013 activities.<br />

l AATF organises a confined field trial (CFT) compliance management<br />

training in Accra, Ghana on 24 July to enhance the capacity of teams<br />

responsible for managing the Maruca Resistant Cowpea and NEWEST<br />

Rice projects in Ghana, Burkina Faso and Nigeria.<br />

l The WEMA intellectual property and management team holds its review<br />

meeting on 29 July alongside a licensing training in Pretoria, South Africa.<br />

August<br />

l The Striga Control in Maize Project holds a planning and strategy meeting<br />

in Nairobi, Kenya from 13–14 August attended by representatives from<br />

Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania including seed companies who reviewed<br />

the status of the Project since its launch in 2006 and also discussed plans<br />

for the <strong>2012</strong> short rains and the 2013 seasons.<br />

l WEMA Project product development team members tour trial sites in<br />

South Africa, Mozambique and Tanzania to evaluate drought-tolerant<br />

conventional trials.<br />
