Members of racialized groups are younger The age pyramid for people from racialized communities presents a very different shape than for the immigrant community. There is a far higher proportion of young people among racialized groups in all age categories under 44 years than among Toronto’s total population. This higher proportion is especially pronounced in age categories comprising children and youth. By contrast, in all age brackets over 49, there is a lower proportion of members from racialized communities than from Toronto as a whole. Please refer to Chart 3. Youth 13 to 24 years old This section focuses on youth (ages 13 to 24 years) and looks at the proportion of Toronto youth who are immigrants, recent immigrants or members of racialized groups. Majority of youth are members of a racialized group More than half (55.2%) of all youth in Toronto are members of a racialized group. This is the highest proportion for any region in the province and is more than double the proportion of Ontario overall (25.7%). Please refer to Chart 4.
