Welcome back to school for an exciting term of fun and fundraisers for the P&F’s continuing fundraising campaign. We currently have a number of much needed items that we are hoping to raise funds for. These include: freezer for the Tuckshop; hot water in the Home Economics room; blackout curtains in the Science room; two computers for Library. Below are is a list of upcoming events. Please mark the dates in your calendar: Mother’s Day Stall: This Friday, 6 th May, is our annual Mother’s Day Stall which is held at the school. This is a wonderful event where your child/ren can buy a mother’s day gift for you for a very reasonable price. Gifts will be available from $1.00 to approx $10.00 and your support of this stall supports the P&F. Thank you to everyone who has donated gifts for this stall. We so appreciate your support! We do need more gifts for this stall to be a great success so if you would like to donate a gift/s to this stall please send in your item/s by this Thursday so that the item/s can be priced and ready for Friday’s stall. If you would like to help price items or volunteer time on the Mother’s day stall on Friday, please contact Sue Andrews on 0411 752 055. Car Boot Sale: P&F are running a Car Boot Sale on Saturday 14 th May from 8:00am-12:00noon. We do have half the stall sites booked already so If you would like to book a stall space for this event please contact either Vanessa Barker on 0431 231 670, Melinda Thorne on 0403 835 900, or Sue Andrews on 0411 752 055. For a car park sized site it will cost $10. This event is a great opportunity for you to have a stall of new or used items, for a great price and raise some funds for your family. If you have any questions regarding the sites please phone one of the above people. We are in need of volunteers to help with parking, and the schools sausage sizzle and jumping castle on the day. If you would like to volunteer please contact either Chris Andrews on 0417 747 018 or Sue Andrews on 0411 742 055. Barn Dance: CBCC will be having its first Barn Dance on Friday 27 th May from 6:00pm-9:00pm. This event will be held in the new Multipurpose hall which is located above our school Library. Entry is $10.00 per adult and $5.00 per child or a concession holder. A family pass is available for $20.00. This pass is for direct family members only. Tickets are available for purchase from Monday 9 th May from the school office. There will be a hamburger stall at the event where you will be able to purchase hamburgers, sausages in bread, cold drinks and cold water. We are in need of volunteers to help on the hamburger stall. If you would like to volunteer on this stall for an hour, please contact Melinda Thorne on 0403 835 900 or Sue Andrews on 0411 752 055. There will be a door prize and also a prize for the best dressed family. Please take note, that due to the special flooring in the multi-purpose hall, no stiletto heels will be allowed to be worn in the hall. Thanks so much and we appreciate all of your support. Blessings CBCC P&F Committee In the last week of Term One, the Year One students had a dress up day where they came as their favourite nursery rhyme character. The day was a great success with the children really enjoying acting as their character. We had lots of Little Boy Blues, Mary (no lambs) and a couple of Bo Peeps as well. We had a visit from Mr Andrews who sang us some fun nursery rhyme songs. Parents came along and enjoyed sharing a special themed morning tea together. In the second last week of term, Year One had a visit from Adam’s father, Pierre Senekal, who is a police officer. This was very informative and exciting to see a real live policeman and his policewoman partner, Amanda. Some children had the chance to be clocked running with a speed camera! Children learned about how to stay safe on their bikes and on roads.
Middle School History Happenings What do Barbie, an old tennis ball and lots of aluminium foil, have in common? Give up? The answer is appearing as working models of aspects of medieval life. Items made by students in Year 9 History have recently been on display in the library. Students certainly used many recycled items in making the following items: a peasant’s house, gallows, catapult, trebuchet, maidens in period clothing, pots, flail, shields and assorted battle swords as the photos below show. Information plaques completed the museum quality experience for those who came to view the display. Just a little bit along from the year 9 History display was the year 8 History Ancient Greek artefacts display. Hand made Medusa masks, painted papier-mache Greek vases and urns, plates depicting Greek life, terracotta toys, temple columns and Cycladic statues made for another stunning display. Students really enjoyed the experience of making these artefacts and seeing them on display for the school community. Left: The range of items made were of high quality. The new bench space, the picturesque waterfall and pond backdrop in our library make the area a welcome place to display students’ work for all to see. I am sure many teachers will make use of the display area and we encourage you to come and see what students are creating while learning at CBCC. Students visit the Abbey Museum Late last term students in Years 8, 9 and 10 went on an excursion to the Abbey Museum, Caboolture. Year 10 students had completed a study of the Reformation, Year 9 students had been studying about the Middle Ages and Year 8 students were studying Ancient civilizations; so the excursion was timely to enhance their appreciation and understanding of these historical times. We were met by “Sir Matt and Lady Judith” who provided a very entertaining and informative hands-on display about Knights of the Middle Ages. Students were intrigued by Matt’s antics and keen to handle the items. We then stepped outside for a demonstration and a chance to try archery with genuine long bows. After lunch we then visited the museum itself where an hour disappeared far too quickly while looking at the displays and learning more about the various artefacts: from the spooky monk in the corner to Mary Queen of Scots’ tiny shoe! My thanks go to the students for the high level of interest and participation shown on the day. I would also like to extend my thanks to the accompanying teachers Miss Bourke and Mrs Briggs, the accompanying parents, Mrs Marilyn Smith and Mrs Anita Cardow and our drivers Mick, Frank and Caville for making the excursion a worthwhile Sports Floor Installed Over the holidays the sports floor was installed in our new Multi-Purpose Hall. Included in this installation was linemarking for a basketball half court and a volley ball court. What an excellent facility for our children. Our PA system is installed and working excellently, however, there are some items we still need and which some members of the <strong>College</strong> community may be able to help with. In particular, we are looking for an electric keyboard (band quality), some more guitar amplifiers and some stage lighting. We will be able to acquire these items over time, but if you happen to have access to any of these, please let Mr Andrews know. Page 3 School banking day has changed to Wednesdays.
