Option 2: Crown of Thorns
Say: In the Bible, people hurt Jesus and took him away from his friends. The people
called Jesus names and put a crown of sharp thorns on his head. Even Jesus
had to trust God during this sad day. no matter what people do…trust God! Let’s make
a picture to remember that Jesus trusted God even when people were mean
to him.
1. Give each child the Day 3 Bible Activity Page from his or her Bible Play Pack, and
write the child’s name on his or her paper.
2. Show children the God Sightings on one side of the page. Point out the people
who do good things to show us God’s love. Let children choose one person
that they’ll thank God for.
3. Turn the page over, and show children the Bible picture. Help them use cotton
swabs to make a thick line of glue across Jesus’ head. Then let preschoolers
press whole cloves onto the glue to make a crown of thorns. Talk about how
sharp the “thorns” are. If time allows, let children color the rest of the picture.
Say: Even when people were mean to Jesus, he trusted that God had a big
plan for him. We can remember that no matter what people do…trust God!
Option 3: Soarin’ Spoon
Before kids arrive, photocopy and cut
out the Bible verse from the bottom
of page 18. Cut the paper plates in
half; then cut several of the halves
into thirds. (You can have older
preschoolers do the cutting as part of
the activity, if you want.) Hold up your
sample craft.
Say: Our Bible verse reminds us: “But those who trust in the Lord will find new
strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles.” Gently toss your sample
“eagle” so it soars across the room. These high-fliers will remind us of those
special words from the Bible!
1. Give each child a paper plate half and a spoon. Write the child’s name on the
front of the plate, and have kids glue the Bible verse near their name.
2. Let children color the back of the paper plate with brown markers and then
tape a paper plate “wedge” to the rounded bottom of the plate to create the
eagle’s white tail feathers.
3. Guide kids in taping the spoons to the underside of the plate so the bowl of the
spoon is sticking out from the straight side of the plate.
4. Preschoolers can use permanent markers to draw eyes and a beak on the back
of the spoon.
3 Key Verse (p. 18)
Pilot Program Pointer
We tried this with two spoons and a
pebble for ballast, but the spoons and
pebble were too heavy. These easy
eagles flew fantastically…and were
a huge hit with preschoolers!
