We also will be installing drainage on holes #13 and #16 where the heavy soil was laid that forces us to be on cart paths when we have a fair amount of rain. We will be growing the small putting green in at the starter shed and pushing several fairways to thicken (#2, #4, #8, #9) as they have gotten better each year. Club Course News Hello Golfers As another great golf season passes us, believe it or not we are preparing for the Men’s and Women’s leagues and Couples events for the 2010-2011 Season. People often ask during the Member-Guest events “how do you get all this to come together so professionally and organized?” I simply answer “preparation.” That is why at this time we are not only winding down from one great season but, preparing for another. Just a helpful reminder that all of the leagues sweeps earnings must be used by September 30 th 2010. So, if you are not returning until after this date your sweeps will not be available for use. Please come by the golf shop and you will find some great sales as well as some fresh items for summer. We have some great demo clubs and our equipment prices are more than competitive. Scott Feller, PGA Director of Golf Great Shots Congratulations to Beverly Swedko and Nicholas Carbo! They both aced the 12 th hole on the same day! They both aced the same hole with the same club! The both used a 4 iron and lightening struck twice March 7 th on hole #12. Congratulations to Erwin S. Cohen who had a hole in one on hole #14 with a 7 hybrid on March 31, 2010. The Golf Shop also received information that Gil Goldberg recently eagled holes 8 and 18. On hole #8 he hit a 3 wood in the hole from 189 yards and on #18 he jarred a 6 iron from 160 out. Congratulations to all of you on your “GREAT SHOTS!!” SUMMER LEAGUES The Summer Leagues are now in full swing. All of the scheduled events are posted in the respected men’s and ladies locker rooms. You may also look at the standings that are posted in the same locations. I hope that you are all enjoying travelling and playing at different clubs. Thank you to the Member League Chairperson’s, who put these leagues together for all to enjoy. SUMMER RECIPROCAL PROGRAM If playing in league events is not your thing, or you work during the week, or if you like to venture out and golf at other courses, this is for you. The program typically runs early-mid May through the end of October in some cases. Most clubs do not charge much more than our cart rate so this is a great opportunity to be challenged by playing different course designs. The Golf Shop Staff will be your liaison to these clubs as contact is made Pro Shop to Pro Shop. Most tee times can be made two to three days in advance. The Golf Shop will have a pamphlet available to you that outlines all the summer golf programs and golf course maintenance schedules for your review. Old Course News The summertime is fast approaching and we would like to remind you of some of our summer procedures. We will begin closing on Mondays starting May 3 rd and we will reopen on Mondays October 25 th . Please be reminded that the golf shop will be open on Mondays for members’ convenience from 9:00am to 3:00pm. There will be no golf club shuttle service on days The Old Course is closed. All reciprocal arrangements for golf for this summer will be made through the Club Course Golf Shop. Thank you all for a great season and for those of you traveling north please do so safely. We will also be adding a new variation of Bermuda that is said to be the best turf to handle shade in the industry, called Tifgrand. We will be doing some sod work to the right of #6 green, down the right of #9 rough along the ficus/outof-bounds section and then #16 around the tee complexes. One of our primary goals is to work extremely hard to change out the soil texture of the fairways to increase the ability of our members to hit their fairway shots easier.
