Sussex Russian Society Talk: Shostakovich:<br />
Unforgettable 1961, by Terry Metheringham.<br />
Two Shostakovich symphonies had their first<br />
performance in 1961: the 12th celebrating the<br />
1917 revolution, and the 4th written in 1937<br />
but withdrawn before its scheduled first performance.<br />
The talk will explore what these two<br />
symphonies tell us about Shostakovich and his<br />

Talk. <strong>Lewes</strong> through the eyes of a flint knapper.<br />
Flintman, David Smith covers the history of<br />
flint, showing its use and versatility as a building<br />
material. Using local references, he will<br />
also demonstrate how the material has given<br />
<strong>Lewes</strong> its distinctive look, with examples of the<br />
good, the bad and the unusual. There will be a<br />
demonstration of flint knapping. King’s Church<br />
