PROBLEMS: - O.A. of Knee, Low Back Pain, Stroke, Rheumatoid Arthritis & Sprain of
ankle joints etc.
Medical Consultation: In this month, two Geriatric
Consultation & one orthopedic consultation sessions were
organized in ASH Bhubaneswar. A total of 29 patients
received free consultation from Dr. Sarat Patnaik, Geriatric
Consultant & Dr. Debadatta Sahoo, Orthopedic Consultant.

Elder’s Helpline
Call Records: In the month of Sept’12, all total 39 nos. of incoming & 143 nos. of outgoing
calls were recorded in the Helpline. The incoming calls were related to collection of information
regarding HI-Services available in Bhubaneswar Office, information related to the programs of
IDOP, information regarding SCAs & providing Voluntary service in IDOP etc .The outgoing calls
were regarding informing about IDOP events to SCAs, information regarding rescue, information
regarding HI-Office address & ASH, information about Advantage Card & also related to follow
ups & information collection.
Other Activities:
Recreation centre: In the month of Sept’12, 14 nos. of Senior Citizens availed the library service.
Community Meeting in Behera Sahi: The
Helpline Counselor organized a community meeting
on 9th Sept’12 in Behera Sahi. The Elderly People,
AWW & some youth groups were present in the
meeting. Basically this was a community
mobilization meeting to aware the people about the
HI-Services provided through ASH-Bhubaneswar &
how can they avail it. Apart from Helpline
Counselor, State Head-Odisha was also present in
the meeting.
Community meeting in Salia Sahi Janata Nagar :
On 24th Sept’12, a community meeting was organized at
Salia Sahi Janata Nagar by the Helpline Counselor in
the evening for generating awareness among the Senior
Citizens & general public regarding the ASH & its
services.

Celebration of Grandparent Day:
Happy Hours Play School, Sahid Nagar, BBSR
celebrated Grandparent Day on 30th Sept’12 in
their School premises. The Helpline Counselor
attended the programme & shared about HelpAge
India & its services for Senior Citizens, especially
on ASH.
Visit to Age Care Services Hubs by Mother’s public school :
44 nos. of students along with their teachers of Mother’s Public School, Bhubaneswar visited HI
ASH centre & saw the ongoing services of HI to the elderly. Detailed Programmatic information
was also provided to the students & the teachers. The students asked few questions regarding the
use of various instruments of the Physiotherapy centre & other services which were clarified the HI
Odisha Team. Few Senior Citizens shared their success stories after using the Physiotherapy service of
HI. Apart from this, they also learnt how the Elder’s Helpline works.
TALK ON COMMON OLD AGE Problem & Role of Physiotherapy to Care Giver
Trainees of MAMATA: Dr. Sibani Shankar Tripathy, Consultant Physiotherapist gave a talk to
the care givers of “MAMATA”, a training institute of Care giver at Bhubaneswar on 4th Sept’12. He
took a session on Old age problems & Geriatric Physiotherapy. He demonstrated few exercises to the
care giver trainees. All total 25 nos. of Care Giver Students attended the training.

Celebration of World physiotherapy Day:
On the occasion of World Physiotherapy Day on 8th
Sept’12, a Care Givers Training on Geriatric
Physiotherapy, Geriatric Problems & Diet in Old Age
was organized at MADAT’s Training Hall. 34
Caregivers attended the training. Apart from this,
there was a session on Geriatric Counseling &
practical session on how to handle the patient.
Rural Age Care
Sponsor-a-Grand Parent Program:
4 nos. of MMU health camps in Direct Implementation field was organised in convergence
with Puri, MMU. 66 nos. of elders were provided with Medical Consultation & Medicine.
4 nos. of Physiotherapy treatment session were conducted at Chakrakuda Physiotherapy
treatment center, all total 73 nos. of elders availed the service.
12 no of community level meetings were organized in various villages with various age
groups in the community for the formation of new ESHGs in the community for the
organization of massive elders in the project area for their demands .
All old and new groups meeting were conducted separately in the community by YP and
field staffs on Socio-economic development of groups & the like. Also interacted with the
destitute elders in the community and shared with them about their problems.
In this month 2 new ESHGs has formed in the community with active and assisted elders for
their socio economic development and united them for their demands. The YP & State
Program Manager participated in the formation Meetings & guided the field staff on
formation process & also interacted with Group Members.

Advocacy:
Interaction with the SCAs for Celebration of IDOP.
Informed the SCAs regarding the Govt. circular to all collectors for celebrating IDOP in
district HQ & this year’s theme identified by the MSJE.
Motivating the SCAs for celebration of IDOP in their respective locations & highlight the
issues to the forefront & demand State Policy for Senior Citizens.
Discussed with the Commissioner Police, Police Commissionerate on the security of the senior
citizens along with the President & Secretary of Federation of SCAs of Odisha. Suggested to
identify & issue i/ card to all senior citizens under each & every police station of
Commissionerate Police. Requested to identify & punish the victims of old couple murder
case of Acharya Vihar, Bhubaneswar.
