Special points of interest
Heart Camp.
Age Care Exposure visit
As a part of healthy heart camp drive second camp
was organaised in Lucknow at Satya Kam Seva
Trust ,picnic spot road ,Lucknow in association with
Bhartiya Varisth Nagrik Samiti,”BHAVNA”. More
than hundred beneficiaries taken advantage of this
healthy heart drive
,participation from
rural as well as urban
beneficiaries was
remarkable. Dr.
Naveen Garg
examined the patients
and shown a film based
on causes and
prevention to avoid
theart attack. It was also told by Dr. Garg. that what
to do and what not to do during heart attack. Later
on a NUKKUD natak was also performed by the
artist of “YAYAVAR RANGMANCH “a famous art
group in performing the Nukkud Natak.
SCA members & beneficiaries are
hearing awareness talk of
Dr. Naveen Garg during the camp.
In order to make our programme more effective first
exposure visit was organasised by the organaisation
from 2nd of march till 10th of March to get first
hand information about the activities on other
centers self managed as well as managed by SCAS”.
The basic idea was to cross fertilization of ideas and
reimplementation of those ideas which are
innovative and good and still awaited to replicate.
This team included members Mr. S. Das , Mr.
Yatindera, both from Hyderabad, Mr. S. K. Sharma
from Bhopal, Mr Dibeyendu Ghosh from kolkata &
P. P. Singh from Lucknow. This team Visited age
care projects of Chandigarh ,Shimla, Dehradun,
Musssoori and at last Delhi. All team members saw
functioning of Age care projects run by SCA’s as
well as self managed. In Solan, we found that
despite the age of 80, President of the local SCA was
actively involved in activities of Age care centre &
was extremely motivated to contribute more and
more. Visit was highly beneficial for all of us as we
implemented good ideas after returning from the
visit to make our centers more effective. We not
only saw the functioning of age care centers but
also observed our EMU’s working at shimla which
is a very unique project of HelpAge India.
Services of EMU at far flung area with pathological
test facility is a big thing for hills where still in
primary health centers these facilities are limited.
Best part is that for emergencies we have well
equipped service of Ambulance with this EMU.

Mrs. Asha Singh , a resident of Vikas Nagar area in
Lucknow was relieved of her knee troubles after taking
treatment from HelpAge India's physiotherapy center in
march 2010 for her knee osteoarthritis, after being
relieved of her knee problems she experienced a change
in her lifestyle by being more socially active rather than
being confined at her
house due to pain. On 28th
April 2010, she returned to
our physiotherapy centre
with some sudden
development of weakness
in her foot, on
investigation, it was
revealed that a day before
she had attended a kirtan,
where she sat in an
abnormal posture
continuously for 2-3
hours. She was in a state
of panic due to sudden development weakness in her
right foot dorsiflexors. She was thoroughly examined by
our physiotherapist and as a result was suspected of
FOOT DROP. Our physiotherapist explained her that
she will need continuous physiotherapy treatment along
with neurophysician's consultation. After consultation
with a neuro physician and other tests, her foot drop was
confirmed. After taking HelpAge's physiotherapy
treatment for 12 sessions and following home exercise
schedule taught by our physiotherapist, her foot drop has
completely recovered. she is very happy, relieved and
grateful for our timely guidance and accurate treatment.
She says " Aab main apne panjo ke upar uth sakti
hoon aur ghumm phir bhi sakti hoon" that she can lift
her foot upward and rotate it completely.
free helpline number but he was neither allowed to
use residential phone lines nor the cell phones of his
well. Mr. Tripathi was a
member of Azad Hind Fauj
spent all his money on
studies of his two sons and
built a small house out of his
earnings. His sons are govt.
employees. He was living at
ground floor with her wife who is not able to move
due to sever arthritis but his daughter in law
forcefully sent them at 2 nd floor where they were
unattended by family members and they were forced
to do their cooking themselves. Mr. Tripathi visited
our office with the above complaint. Our team acted
on it and went for counseling to his elder son and
result was good. After few days, we received phone
call from Mr. Tripathi who informed us that now he
