14 FORECAST •Fall 2007 Fort Meade Volunteers Needed at Fort Meade M uchlike the waysteel reinforcesconcretetomake astructurestrong,the workofvolunteers strengthens acommunity.Volunteers serveinvarious capacitiesand theircontributionstothe Fort George G.Meade community areimmeasurable.Volunteeringisn’tsimplynicetodo,itisnecessary tomaintain servicesin the community.Whatwould our lives,our communities,our countrybelike without people from all walksof lifepeople from small businesses, faith-based organizations, low income communities, families, youth, and older adults-volunteering toextendahelping hand tothoseinneed? Volunteer opportunities are widespread throughout the Fort Meade community. Some ofthese opportunities include the American Red Cross, Library, Army Community Service, Child and Youth Services, Tax Center,ThriftShop,and Artsand Crafts Center. The process forbecoming avolunteerisafairlysimple one.The first step isforthe potentialvolunteertocontact the InstallationVolunteer Coordinator who will provide the volunteer with volunteer forms that must be completed prior tothe commencement of services. These forms must be signed by the agency accepting the volunteer.Acopy of these forms must be forwarded to the VolunteerOfficetoofficially“register”the individualasa volunteer.Afteravolunteerbecomesregistered he orshe maybegin volunteering,making suretodocumenttheir hours worked. The general public may enter through the Llewellyn gate off RT 175 across from Okinawa restaurant. From RT 32 it is the first gate onthe leftand from RT 295 itisthe last gateonthe right.
