“Wings ToGo” Chicken Poker: New Twist to<br />
Texas Hold’em Tournaments<br />

or almost three years, there have been Texas<br />
Hold’em Tournaments on Wednesdays at 5:30<br />
p.m. in the Morale, Welfare and Recreation<br />
Department’sLiberty Zone, the recreation center for<br />
single and unac<strong>com</strong>panied E1 to E6 active duty military<br />
on the lowerdeckofthe Recreational<strong>Services</strong>Bldg.<br />
#89,NavalSupport Activity Annapolis.<br />
Tournaments are very popular with the E1-E6 age<br />
groupand offermorethanentertainment-the tournaments<br />
alsoen<strong>com</strong>pass socialization and skill development.<br />
The players learn about each other’spersonalitiesand<br />
then tryto“bluff eachother.” Theylearnstrategy<br />
by participating inan activity that is <strong>com</strong>petitive<br />
but also good, clean fun. It’san alternative to going to<br />
clubsin townorhanging withthe wrong crowd.<br />
Tournaments always involvefood and eachweek the<br />
MWR staff providesone of the usualfares:pizzaorsubs<br />
or grilled hot dogs and hamburgers as well as sodas,<br />
chipsand lightdessert.<br />
But this year,the poker tournaments take on anew<br />
twist thanks tothe support and sponsorship of Wings<br />
ToGo* in Pasadena, MD. This year the players and<br />
onlookers (Liberty Zone patrons and guests) will be<br />
able toenjoythe meatiest and tastiest wingson “Wings<br />
ToGo” ChickenPokerNights.WingsToGoissponsoring<br />
the tournamenton the second Wednesdayof each<br />
month with amound of tasty hot wings (some hotter<br />
than others) and a$25 gift certificate for dinner at<br />
Wings ToGo for the first place winner of the tournament.<br />
This is in addition to the first place plaque and<br />
$25giftcertificatethatMWR Annapolisawardsthe top<br />
winner.<br />
ChickenPokerisplayed the same asTexasHold’em,<br />
exceptthe cardson the table arelaid out in the shape of<br />
achicken’stailfeathers! There isno cash value at the<br />
tournaments and all players start with the same<br />
amountof chips.Betting isalways achip valueinstead<br />
of adollarvalue. High chip countisthe winner.<br />
Be sure to mark your calendars so you won’tmiss<br />
thesetasty treats and excitingpokeraction! Ifyou’rean<br />

School-Age CareRegistration isOngoing atAnnapolis<br />
S<br />
paces are always available in the School-Age<br />
Care Program at NSA Annapolis. MWR Youth<br />
Programs offers care for children before and<br />
after school hours. Registration is ongoing at the<br />
YouthCenter,Mondaythrough Friday,6:30 a.m. to5<br />
p.m.<br />
The program operates Monday through Friday<br />
from 6:30 to 9a.m. and 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. (excluding<br />
federal holidays) and includes supervised activities<br />
suchasartsand crafts,indoor/outdoorgames,help<br />
with homework and an afternoon snack. Additional<br />
care will be provided for early dismissals, parentteacher<br />
conferences, in-service days and snow days.<br />
Bus transportation will be provided before and after<br />
school to Annapolis Elementary; van transportation<br />
will be provided for after school care only for West<br />
AnnapolisElementary School.<br />
Fees range from $15 to $60 and are based on total<br />
familyin<strong>com</strong>e;bring LES orpaystub.The programis<br />
open todependents of all activeduty,activereservists<br />
