“Wings ToGo” Chicken Poker: New Twist to
Texas Hold’em Tournaments
F
or almost three years, there have been Texas
Hold’em Tournaments on Wednesdays at 5:30
p.m. in the Morale, Welfare and Recreation
Department’sLiberty Zone, the recreation center for
single and unaccompanied E1 to E6 active duty military
on the lowerdeckofthe RecreationalServicesBldg.

Tournaments are very popular with the E1-E6 age
groupand offermorethanentertainment-the tournaments
alsoencompass socialization and skill development.
The players learn about each other’spersonalitiesand
then tryto“bluff eachother.” Theylearnstrategy
by participating inan activity that is competitive
but also good, clean fun. It’san alternative to going to
clubsin townorhanging withthe wrong crowd.
Tournaments always involvefood and eachweek the
MWR staff providesone of the usualfares:pizzaorsubs
or grilled hot dogs and hamburgers as well as sodas,
chipsand lightdessert.
But this year,the poker tournaments take on anew
twist thanks tothe support and sponsorship of Wings
ToGo* in Pasadena, MD. This year the players and
onlookers (Liberty Zone patrons and guests) will be
able toenjoythe meatiest and tastiest wingson “Wings
ToGo” ChickenPokerNights.WingsToGoissponsoring
the tournamenton the second Wednesdayof each
month with amound of tasty hot wings (some hotter
than others) and a$25 gift certificate for dinner at
Wings ToGo for the first place winner of the tournament.
This is in addition to the first place plaque and
$25giftcertificatethatMWR Annapolisawardsthe top
winner.
ChickenPokerisplayed the same asTexasHold’em,
exceptthe cardson the table arelaid out in the shape of
achicken’stailfeathers! There isno cash value at the
tournaments and all players start with the same
amountof chips.Betting isalways achip valueinstead
of adollarvalue. High chip countisthe winner.
Be sure to mark your calendars so you won’tmiss
thesetasty treats and excitingpokeraction! Ifyou’rean
eligible LibertyZone patron (single orunaccompanied
E1-E6 active duty member), stop by and give Chicken
Poker a try. One guest per active duty member is
allowed and must be18orolder.Thereisno admission

School-Age CareRegistration isOngoing atAnnapolis
S
paces are always available in the School-Age
Care Program at NSA Annapolis. MWR Youth
Programs offers care for children before and
after school hours. Registration is ongoing at the
YouthCenter,Mondaythrough Friday,6:30 a.m. to5
p.m.
The program operates Monday through Friday
from 6:30 to 9a.m. and 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. (excluding
federal holidays) and includes supervised activities
suchasartsand crafts,indoor/outdoorgames,help
with homework and an afternoon snack. Additional
care will be provided for early dismissals, parentteacher
conferences, in-service days and snow days.
Bus transportation will be provided before and after
school to Annapolis Elementary; van transportation
will be provided for after school care only for West
AnnapolisElementary School.
Fees range from $15 to $60 and are based on total
familyincome;bring LES orpaystub.The programis
open todependents of all activeduty,activereservists
