Rnd 12 Was the last game of the
season for the Youth Girls, Having
played our round 13 match during
the school holidays in the curtain
riaser, So it was of too Bundoora to
take on St Damians, After our first
clash at Colman this season had 3
girls concussed, there was some
nerves around the trip to Bundoora,
Having the head of YJFL umpires,
David Hannan and his sun umpiring
our game was a huge comfort, The
game was very important for many
reasons, Firstly we had Hailey & Dee
playing their 100th junior games,
And most of those games would
have been played together from
playing together at Forrest Hills
until making the transistion to the
Youth Girls comp and playing for
Warrandyte and now Warrandyte
Park Orchards, Both girls would
have many great experiences and
would have seen many changes in
their 100 games, They are both Captains
and leaders of the team and
we congratulate them an a terrific
milestone, Also in our last game we
have 2 girls who have potentially
played their last Youth Girls Game
due to age restrictions, Courtney
Weeks as well as our 100 gamer
Dee are both over the age limit and
seasons end, So it was with great
sadness that we say farewell to 2
fantastic contributors, Courtney
also a team captain was Part of the
first Park Orchards YGT, And was
instrumental along w tith Shannyn
Dodd in making the dream a reality,
Courtney had been captain in
the first 2 season at park Orchards &
upon the merge of the 2 teams was
a natural choice for her maturity and
work ethic on the field, We are however
holding our breaths as we are
waiting the result from the YJFL, We
have recebtly written to the league
requesting that they investigate
the possibility of adjusting the age
limit to 19 in line with other leagues
in the area. So we may not of seen
the last of these two just yet. On to
the game, It was the wettest I think
I have seen a ground in 3 seasons,
The coaches and assistants area
was cover in about 3inches of water,
And the ground played like an
ice skating rink, We knew we were
in for a tough game and a tough
game we had, We did some solid
things at times and made some
posotive forward advances against
the opposition, We probably handpassed
too often gaining little
ground and missing targets, But we
did get our hands on the ball often
and against quality opposition, Had
we of kicked instead of handpassing
we may have really threatened
the score board, We marked pretty
good in wet conditions, However St
Damians were just a little to experienced
for us and even though they
kicked 8, we never looked thrashed,
Just a little out skilled.Dahlia did
some great work in the ruck and
looked to have control of the sentre
bounce, Maddie King and Sam
V worked well across the backline
with Lou & Micaela giving us some
long kicking out at full back, Ella
played well all day running well
and marking strongly, Ella is one of
those players that the team will be
looking at in 2014 as being a focul
point in a key position role likely up
forward with Imogen playing along
side her, Both girls are pretty good
kicks and its what we need if we are
going to trouble the scorers next
season. Maddy D worked hard and
earned plenty of the footy, Another
who the team will look at to play a
big part in its progress. Courtney
& Dee played like they do every
game, Hard at and always in it, If in
fact this was their last, Both girls will
be sorely missed, But we are all fortunate
to have been able to watch
