Blues for the Zoo Concert
Moonridge Animal Park holds fundraiser event
Due to last year’s success, the Moonridge
Animal Park is making their Blues for the
Zoo fundraising concert an annual festival
event, and this year’s 2nd Annual Blues for the
Zoo Concert will take place on Saturday, Aug. 6.
The concert will be held at Big Bear Lake’s Swim
Beach Outdoor Amphitheater (located at 41220
Park Avenue in Big Bear Lake).
Music runs from 3pm to 7pm with gates
opening at 1pm. Beach chairs and blankets are
welcome for lawn festival-style seating. There
will be local artisans, arts and crafts, a selection
of fine food, and beverages available on site (no
coolers allowed). Don’t forget to bring a swimsuit
and children under 10 are free.
Headlining this year’s concert will be the
Chicago Blues Guitar Shootout with Ronnie
Baker Brooks, Lurrie Bell and Larry McCray.
They are three of the hottest young guitarists
carrying on the Chicago Blues tradition. Also
Maria Muldaur and her Red Hot Bluesiana
Band will be playing. Maria has been making
great Blues and Folk music since her Greenwich
Village Days and her “Midnight at the Oasis”
heyday. She received her 6th Grammy nomination
in 2010. To round out this year’s concert
will be Brother Yusef. Yusef is a master solo
guitarist, who forges new ground with selfpenned
songs he describes as organic deep-fried
fattback blues.
You can check out this year’s event online at
www.moonridgezoo.org/concert. Also you can
hear some of the songs and talk on their Facebook
site at www.facebook.com/BluesForTheZoo.
Tickets are on sale $30 in advance or $35
on the day of the event. In addition you can
reserve a room at Northwoods Resort for $69
per night, over half off from their regular prices.
Enjoy cool August breezes from Big Bear
Lake while listening to a great blues outdoor
concert, and at the same time, help to raise
funds for the Moonridge Animal Park to buy
medical equipment and supplies that will help
save wildlife. IER
