d.) A body art establishment shall have a cleaning room to be used exclusively <strong>for</strong> the<br />

cleaning, disinfection, <strong>and</strong> sterilization of instruments.<br />

(1) The cleaning room shall have a separate instrument sink that is designed <strong>and</strong> built<br />

according to st<strong>and</strong>ards set by an American National St<strong>and</strong>ards Institute (ANSI)-<br />

accredited certification program or a stainless steel instrument sink reserved only<br />

<strong>for</strong> instrument disinfectant activities <strong>and</strong> it shall be supplied with hot <strong>and</strong> cold<br />

running water.<br />

(2) The cleaning room shall be separated from any other area in the facility by means<br />

of doors, smooth nonabsorbent curtains, or similar department approved partition.<br />

(3) The cleaning room shall be equipped with an ultrasonic cleaning unit <strong>and</strong> a<br />

medical grade autoclave. The autoclave shall be used to sterilize all nondisposable<br />

<strong>and</strong> reusable body art equipment.<br />

(4) The autoclave shall be separated from the ultrasonic cleaner <strong>and</strong> the instrument<br />

sink by a minimum distance of <strong>for</strong>ty-eight (48) inches, unless using a splashguard<br />

approved by the department.<br />

e.) A h<strong>and</strong> sink shall be provided <strong>for</strong> each private workstation <strong>and</strong> <strong>for</strong> every two adjacent<br />

workstations. H<strong>and</strong> sinks shall be no more than fifteen (15) feet from any workstation.<br />

Establishments in operation prior to the adoption of these rules <strong>and</strong> regulations shall have<br />

a h<strong>and</strong> sink located within thirty (30) feet of each workstation. H<strong>and</strong> sink(s) shall be<br />

accessible to each workstation so that the artists can wash their h<strong>and</strong>s <strong>and</strong> return to the<br />

workstation without having to touch anything with their h<strong>and</strong>s. Toilet room sinks may<br />

not serve as workstation h<strong>and</strong> sinks.<br />

f.) Any h<strong>and</strong> sink <strong>and</strong> instrument sink shall not be used as a janitorial sink. A janitorial sink<br />

or an outside can wash pad is required at all new facilities. The janitorial sink or can<br />

wash pad area shall be designed, installed <strong>and</strong> maintained according to law.<br />

Establishments in operation prior to the adoption of these rules shall be exempt from this<br />

rule as long as mop water can be disposed of in a manner approved by the department.<br />

g.) Each location shall have the facilities to properly dispose of all waste material. All<br />

materials (e.g., needles) must be disposed of in accordance with Georgia Department of<br />

Natural Resources – Environmental Protection Division – Solid Waste Management –<br />

Chapter 391-3-4.15.<br />

h.) The use of common towels <strong>and</strong> cloths is prohibited. H<strong>and</strong> sinks shall be equipped with a<br />

filled soap dispenser <strong>and</strong> single use disposable towels in an approved dispenser.<br />

i.) Sanitary Facilities <strong>and</strong> Controls<br />

(1) Enough potable water <strong>for</strong> the needs of the body art studio shall be provided from<br />

an approved source that is either a public water system or a nonpublic water<br />

<strong>Cobb</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Douglas</strong> <strong>County</strong> Public Health<br />
