Presenters, Authors & Invited Speakers<br />

Amernic, Joel is Professor of Accounting with the Joseph L. Rotman School of Management at the<br />

University of Tor<strong>on</strong>to.<br />

Baldwin, Nicholas D. J. is the Dean of FDU's Wroxt<strong>on</strong> College in Oxfordshire, England. He is a lecturer<br />

and tutor in government and politics. His Parliament in the 20th Century was published this spring. A<br />

regular lecturer in both the United Kingdom and the United States, he has also written extensively in<br />

politics - - publicati<strong>on</strong>s include Mastering British Politics (1999 & 1996), The House of Lords: Its<br />

Parliamentary and Judicial Roles (1999), The Law and Parliament (1998), c<strong>on</strong>tributi<strong>on</strong>s to The House of<br />

Lords at Work (1993), Parliament and Pressure Politics (1990) and Parliament in the 1980's (1985), as<br />

well as numerous articles and papers. He is an active member of the prestigious “Study of Parliament<br />

Group” as well as an Associate of the Centre for Legislative Studies. Dr. Baldwin has been active in British<br />

political life, having been a candidate for Parliament and a Special Assistant in the House of Lords. In 2000<br />

he was made a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.<br />

Bishop, Bojinka is an Associate Professor holding the Sloan Professorship in Public Relati<strong>on</strong>s at the E.W.<br />

Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University. She is also a Faculty Fellow at the Voinovich Center for<br />

Leadership and Public Affairs at Ohio University. Prior to joining the university n 1998, Ms. Bishop<br />

practiced public and corporate communicati<strong>on</strong> for more than 20 years and was involved in several projects<br />

in Poland, Slovakia, and Ukraine. She was Director of Public Affairs for the American Water Works<br />

Associati<strong>on</strong> until 1996 directing communicati<strong>on</strong> strategies, media relati<strong>on</strong>s, public involvement initiatives,<br />

and internati<strong>on</strong>al campaigns. She holds a Master of Science Degree from the University of Michigan’s<br />

School of Natural Resources and a Certificate of Advanced Studies in Alternative Dispute Resoluti<strong>on</strong> from<br />

the University of Denver. She is a member of the Nati<strong>on</strong>al Associati<strong>on</strong> of Science Writers, the Public<br />

Relati<strong>on</strong>s Society of America, the Internati<strong>on</strong>al Associati<strong>on</strong> for Public Participati<strong>on</strong>, and the Associati<strong>on</strong> of<br />

Educators in Journalism and Mass Communicati<strong>on</strong>.<br />

Branco, Manual Castelo is with the Faculty of Ec<strong>on</strong>omics, University of Porto, Portugal.<br />

Byrd, L. Sim<strong>on</strong>e will pursue doctoral studies in organizati<strong>on</strong>al communicati<strong>on</strong> at Howard University this<br />

fall. She began teaching in August 2003 as a graduate assistant in Baruch’s Zicklin School of Business and<br />

also worked for the Borough of Manhattan Community College. Currently, she is employed as a part-time<br />

instructor at three Washingt<strong>on</strong>, D.C./Baltimore area colleges and universities teaching a variety of<br />

communicati<strong>on</strong> courses. She receiverd her MA in corporate communicati<strong>on</strong> from Baruch College, City<br />

University of New York, and her BA degree in mass communicati<strong>on</strong> with an emphasis in public relati<strong>on</strong>s<br />

and journalism from Alabama State University.<br />

Camer<strong>on</strong>, Glen T. is Professor and Maxine Wils<strong>on</strong> Gregory Chair in Journalism at the University of<br />

Missouri-Columbia.<br />

Combes-Thuelin, Elizabeth A.M. is a faculty member who teaches Financial Analysis and Financial<br />

Accounting. Her research area focuses <strong>on</strong> creative accounting and fair value. She has two published papers:<br />

<strong>on</strong>e in a high quality professi<strong>on</strong>al journal and the other in an academic book. She is currently studying a<br />

sample of twenty European banking instituti<strong>on</strong>s developing exploratory research based <strong>on</strong> the voluntary<br />

fair value informati<strong>on</strong> disclosed in relati<strong>on</strong> to IAS39 (Financial Instruments Internati<strong>on</strong>al Accounting<br />

Standard).<br />

Corrigan, Michael W. is an Assistant Professor in the Communicati<strong>on</strong> Arts Department at Edgewood<br />

College in Madis<strong>on</strong>, Wisc<strong>on</strong>sin where he teaches undergraduate and graduate classes in organizati<strong>on</strong>al<br />

communicati<strong>on</strong>, research methods, intercultural communicati<strong>on</strong>, and interpers<strong>on</strong>al communicati<strong>on</strong>. His<br />

research, however, crosses several disciplines. He holds an Ed.D. from West Virginia University and<br />

pursued a masters and bachelors degrees in communicati<strong>on</strong> studies. His research efforts seek more efficient<br />

published carto<strong>on</strong>ist, and community activist.<br />

Craig, Russell, M. Com Ph.D., FCPA, FAIM, is a Professor in the Nati<strong>on</strong>al Graduate School of<br />

Management at the Australian Nati<strong>on</strong>al University and a recipient of his Vice Chancellor’s Award for<br />

Teaching Excellence. He is the author of several books, and research m<strong>on</strong>ographs, including Company<br />

Financial Statements: Form and C<strong>on</strong>tent (1977-89); Keeping Employees Informed (1982); Enterprise<br />

Negotiati<strong>on</strong>s & the Accounting Problems in Determining Capacity to Pay (1992); John Croaker, C<strong>on</strong>vict<br />

Embezzler (2000); and CEO-Speak: The Language of <strong>Corporate</strong> Leadership (currently under review). He<br />

has published in respected internati<strong>on</strong>al scholarly journals covering accounting, communicati<strong>on</strong>s, history,<br />

and industrial relati<strong>on</strong>s. His research interests include rhetoric and metaphor in CEO accountability<br />

discourse, accounting and financial reporting, the use and abuse of accounting data in industrial relati<strong>on</strong>s,<br />

selected issues in internati<strong>on</strong>al accounting, Australian business history 1788-1828, university educati<strong>on</strong> in<br />

c<strong>on</strong>temporary society, and Internet financial reporting.<br />

Crawford, John is founder and chief idea officer for Timely Ideas Corporati<strong>on</strong>, helping evolving<br />

companies achieve their goals through strategies grounded in people, process, technology, and<br />

communicati<strong>on</strong>s. His practice c<strong>on</strong>nects corporate branding, identity, culture, and communicati<strong>on</strong>s to enable<br />

organizati<strong>on</strong>s in transiti<strong>on</strong> to adapt to change and improve performance. Before launching Timely Ideas,<br />

Mr. Crawford held a wide variety of senior level management, marketing, and business development<br />

positi<strong>on</strong>s with fast paced telecommunicati<strong>on</strong>s companies. He has a business degree from the University of<br />

Rhode Island as well as an MBA, and a Masters Degree in Organizati<strong>on</strong>al Psychology from Fairleigh<br />

Dickins<strong>on</strong> University. John supplements his academic knowledge by regularly participating in professi<strong>on</strong>al<br />

c<strong>on</strong>ferences, and speaks <strong>on</strong> the subjects of change management and communicati<strong>on</strong>s. He is an Adjunct<br />

Faculty Member at Fairleigh Dickins<strong>on</strong> University in its Leadership Studies <strong>Program</strong>.<br />

Cropp, Fritz is Associate Professor at the Missouri School of Journalism, University of Missouri-<br />

Columbia.<br />

DeFries, Ann is a Senior Analyst in Business Development at AEGIS Insurance Services and a recent<br />

graduate of the Master’s <strong>Program</strong> in <strong>Corporate</strong> and Organizati<strong>on</strong>al Communicati<strong>on</strong> at Fairleigh Dickins<strong>on</strong><br />

University. She received her bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences from St. Peter’s College and has worked<br />

in the financial services industry most of her career.<br />

Dhir, Krishna S. is the Dean of the Campbell School of Business at Berry College in Mount Berry,<br />

Georgia. He is also a Visiting Professor of Business Administrati<strong>on</strong> at Coventry University, U.K. Earlier,<br />

he was at The Pennsylvania State University at Harrisburg, where he held the S.B.A. Professorship and<br />

served as the Director of the School of Business Administrati<strong>on</strong>. He has also served as the Head of the<br />

Department of Business Administrati<strong>on</strong> at The Citadel: The Military College of South Carolina, and the<br />

Director of the Master of Internati<strong>on</strong>al Management (M.I.M.) degree program at the University of Denver,<br />

in Denver, Colorado. Dr. Dhir has over 13 years of cumulative corporate experience, as a Vice President at<br />

BioStar Medical Products, Inc., in Boulder, Colorado; a senior executive of CIBA-GEIGY AG (now<br />

Novartis) in Basel, Switzerland; and a pilot plant manager with Borg-Warner Chemicals' Internati<strong>on</strong>al<br />

Divisi<strong>on</strong> in Parkersburg, West Virginia. Dr. Dhir was elected Vice President of the Decisi<strong>on</strong> Sciences<br />

Institute in <strong>2005</strong>, and is member of its Board of Directors. Recipient of various teaching and research<br />

awards, he particularly cherishes the St. John Ambulance Associati<strong>on</strong> Gold Medal he received as a teenager<br />

for promoti<strong>on</strong> of First Aid educati<strong>on</strong>. Dr. Dhir has authored a number of book chapters and research papers<br />

published in journals such as Applied Mathematical Modeling, Business and Society, <strong>Corporate</strong><br />

Frandsen, Finn is professor and director of the ASB Centre for Business Communicati<strong>on</strong> at the Aarhus<br />

research <strong>on</strong> various aspects of corporate communicati<strong>on</strong>, from corporate culture, corporate branding and<br />

Gambetti, Rossella is a lecturer of corporate communicati<strong>on</strong>, advertising and <strong>on</strong>line communicati<strong>on</strong> at<br />

Catholic University of the Sacred Heart, Milan and is a researcher at LABCOM – Research Laboratory <strong>on</strong><br />

<strong>Corporate</strong> Communicati<strong>on</strong> at the same university. In 2004 she was a Visiting Scholar in the Department of<br />

Advertising at Michigan State University at East Lansing (MI). She received a Ph.D. in Marketing &<br />

<strong>Corporate</strong> Communicati<strong>on</strong> at the IULM University in Milan. Her Ph.D. thesis explored the impact of<br />

Internet-based communicati<strong>on</strong> technologies <strong>on</strong> marketing and communicati<strong>on</strong> strategies in B to B markets.<br />

Dr. Gambetti research explores corporate communicati<strong>on</strong>, corporate branding, stakeholder relati<strong>on</strong>ship<br />

management, corporate identity and reputati<strong>on</strong> management, Internet marketing and communicati<strong>on</strong>.<br />

Genest, Christina M. is currently the Assistant Director of the <strong>Corporate</strong> Communicati<strong>on</strong> Institute at<br />

Fairleigh Dickins<strong>on</strong> University. She has an extensive career in executive n<strong>on</strong>profit roles. She also worked<br />

for a Fortune 500 corporati<strong>on</strong> coordinating community relati<strong>on</strong>s activities and managing a corporate<br />

c<strong>on</strong>tributi<strong>on</strong>s program. She was the Executive Director of a U.S. based, n<strong>on</strong>partisan, n<strong>on</strong>sectarian,<br />

exchange organizati<strong>on</strong> that c<strong>on</strong>ducted annual c<strong>on</strong>ferences with citizens of the former Soviet Uni<strong>on</strong>. She has<br />

taught undergraduate courses in public relati<strong>on</strong>s, and in administrati<strong>on</strong> and management. She has also<br />

served <strong>on</strong> voluntary boards of directors and committees of numerous social, civic, health care and<br />

educati<strong>on</strong>al organizati<strong>on</strong>s. Most recently she sat (elected state official) <strong>on</strong> the Morris Plains (N.J.) Board of<br />

Educati<strong>on</strong> and as its president led a successful building b<strong>on</strong>d referendum campaign. She has a B.A. in<br />

Goodman, Michael B. is the founder and director of the <strong>Corporate</strong> Communicati<strong>on</strong> Institute at Fairleigh<br />

Dickins<strong>on</strong> University. He also founded the Graduate <strong>Program</strong>s in <strong>Corporate</strong> Communicati<strong>on</strong> at Fairleigh<br />

Dickins<strong>on</strong> University, serving as director for 16 years. He has taught business and corporate<br />

communicati<strong>on</strong> courses at Baruch, CUNY, New York University, New York Institute of Technology, and<br />

SUNY at St<strong>on</strong>y Brook (New York, U.S.A.). Since 1981 Dr. Goodman has been a c<strong>on</strong>sultant in corporate<br />

communicati<strong>on</strong>s, managerial communicati<strong>on</strong>, problem solving, new business proposals, change, and<br />

corporate culture. He has published widely, including seven books. His most recent published books are<br />

Working in a Global Envir<strong>on</strong>ment: Understanding, Communicating, and Managing Transnati<strong>on</strong>ally<br />

Gupta, Mil<strong>on</strong> is public relati<strong>on</strong>s officer of Eurecom, the European organizati<strong>on</strong> for research and<br />

development in telecommunicati<strong>on</strong>s, located in Heidelberg, Germany. He has thirteen years of professi<strong>on</strong>al<br />

experience in public relati<strong>on</strong>s and holds a Master’s degree in history, political science, and communicati<strong>on</strong><br />

science from Bochum University.<br />

Henner<strong>on</strong>, Sandrine is Deputy Head of the Department of Law at EDHEC Business School. She teaches<br />

company law, commercial law, and labor law. Dr. Henner<strong>on</strong> holds a doctorate in private law from the<br />

University of Lille II, where she c<strong>on</strong>tinues to give courses in French company law for bachelor and master<br />

students. Her research interests deal with corporate and family law. She has c<strong>on</strong>ducted research <strong>on</strong> legal<br />

aspects of risk disclosure in French companies’ financial report. Dr. Henner<strong>on</strong> is a member of the<br />

Internati<strong>on</strong>al Societ of Family Law and of Laboratoire d’Etudes et de Recherches Appliquées au Droit<br />

Privé (LERADP).<br />

Holmes, Alis<strong>on</strong> was appointed Managing Director of BritishAmerican Business Inc in L<strong>on</strong>d<strong>on</strong> in<br />

September 2001. BritishAmerican Business Inc of New York and L<strong>on</strong>d<strong>on</strong> (BABi) is the leading<br />

transatlantic business organizati<strong>on</strong>, dedicated to helping its 700 member companies build and expand their<br />

internati<strong>on</strong>al business. American by birth, Holmes has been living and working in the UK since 1987 and<br />

has maintained a str<strong>on</strong>g involvement in transatlantic issues including two years (1999-2001) as Chair of the<br />

for both 1992 and 1997 General Electi<strong>on</strong> Campaigns. Holmes received a BSc in Educati<strong>on</strong> and Public<br />

Policy from Northwestern University (1985) and an MA in Social Policy from the University of Chicago<br />

Jacobs, Glenda is currently a senior lecturer in the School of Communicati<strong>on</strong> at UNITEC, New Zealand,<br />

where she is resp<strong>on</strong>sible for teaching and supervising the postgraduate study of CMC and Communicati<strong>on</strong><br />

Networking. She is also a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Waikato, in Hamilt<strong>on</strong>, New Zealand.<br />

Jang, Chyng-Yang is Assistant Professor in the Department of Communicati<strong>on</strong> at the University of Texas<br />

at Arlingt<strong>on</strong>. His research interests include virtual team, computer-supported cooperative work, group<br />

communicati<strong>on</strong>, and electr<strong>on</strong>ic commerce. Dr. Jang received his doctorate in the Department of<br />

Telecommunicati<strong>on</strong> at Michigan State University.<br />

Kalla, Hanna is currently in an exchange program at Oxford University while pursuing a Ph.D. in<br />

Koul, Saroj is Deputy General Manager of <strong>Corporate</strong> Communicati<strong>on</strong> at BHEL in India. She has over<br />

twenty-two year’s of hands-<strong>on</strong> experience in different strategic management, informati<strong>on</strong> technology, and<br />

corporate communicati<strong>on</strong> enabled areas. She has been a visiting faculty member at the Indian Institute of<br />

Technology, Delhi, the Amity Business School, and the Global Business School in France (Indian chapter).<br />

She has served as adjunct faculty and advisory member of the All India Management Associati<strong>on</strong> and a coguide<br />

to a number of MBA/M. technology students. Dr. Koul is an active life member of System Dynamics<br />

Society of India (SDSI), a registered internati<strong>on</strong>al professi<strong>on</strong>al body. She is <strong>on</strong> the Editorial Board of its<br />

technical journal Internati<strong>on</strong>al Journal of System Dynamics. She has published in nati<strong>on</strong>al and internati<strong>on</strong>al<br />

journals and books <strong>on</strong> ERP and electr<strong>on</strong>ic commerce for distance learning students and database<br />

management system and networking and communicati<strong>on</strong>. She earned a Ph.D. in corporate planning from<br />

IIT Delhi, a Master of Electrical Engineering: System Engineering & Operati<strong>on</strong> Research at the University<br />

of Roorkee, (now IIT Roorkee) India; and a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering from Kashmir University,<br />

India.<br />

Kovacs, Rachel is Assistant Professor in the Department of English, Communicati<strong>on</strong>, and Philosophy at<br />

Fairleigh Dickins<strong>on</strong> University. Previously, she headed the public relati<strong>on</strong>s emphasis at the School of<br />

Communicati<strong>on</strong>, University of Hartford, U.S.A., where she was the advisor of its chapter of Public<br />

Relati<strong>on</strong>s Student Society of America (PRSSA). In that capacity, she directed its 2001 award-winning entry<br />

in the nati<strong>on</strong>al Bateman Competiti<strong>on</strong>. She is the recipient of two Interdisciplinary Top Paper Awards<br />

(PRSA Educators Academy, 1999; Institute of Public Relati<strong>on</strong>s (IPR), 2001) for her studies in British<br />

broadcasting activism. Since the mid-1990’s, Dr. Kovacs has lectured, presented at internati<strong>on</strong>al<br />

c<strong>on</strong>ferences, and published <strong>on</strong> the subject. She was awarded a 2001 Yale Visiting Faculty Fellowship. She<br />

also formerly served as the assistant director of the Journal of Communicati<strong>on</strong>. Dr. Kovas holds degrees in<br />

mass communicati<strong>on</strong> including a Ph.D. from the University of Maryland College of Journalism, and an<br />

M.A. from Tows<strong>on</strong> University. Her B.A. degree is in theatre arts from Brandeis University and included<br />

studies at Manchester University, U.K.<br />

Kuteev-Moreira, Paulo J. is CEO of an Iberian healthcare organizati<strong>on</strong> providing services and products<br />

for the elderly. In this post he is resp<strong>on</strong>sible for all corporate communicati<strong>on</strong> and community relati<strong>on</strong>s. He<br />

held the positi<strong>on</strong> of Sub-Secretary of State for the Portuguese health ministry until February <strong>2005</strong>.<br />

Formerly he was Director of Marketing and Communicati<strong>on</strong> for a 600 bed privately managed public<br />

hospital in Portugal. In this post he was resp<strong>on</strong>sible for all corporate communicati<strong>on</strong> development, media<br />

relati<strong>on</strong>s, and strategic community relati<strong>on</strong>s. He holds a Ph.D. in Social Marketing and Health<br />

Communicati<strong>on</strong> from the University of Manchester (Manchester Business School—MCHM, U.K.) and is a<br />

visiting lecturer at several Portuguese universities including ISCTE, Universidade Atlântica, and and<br />

Universidade Fernando Pessoa where he teaches <strong>Corporate</strong> Image Management, Heathcare Semiotics,<br />

Rhetorics in the Health Sector, and Social Marketing for Health Promoti<strong>on</strong>. In the U.K., during his<br />

doctorate program, he taught as an assistant at the University of Manchester and at the Durham Business<br />

School. Dr. Kuteev-Moreira holds a Diploma in Freelance Journalism and writes for health magazines in<br />

Portugal and is a health editor for a Portuguese cable televisi<strong>on</strong> channel. His current research is a project<br />

exploring the relati<strong>on</strong>ship between corporate communicati<strong>on</strong> and c<strong>on</strong>temporary healthcare governance and<br />

citizen empowerment. He is a researcher for the Portuguese Observatory of Healthcare Systems and<br />

affiliated with the World Health Organizati<strong>on</strong> - Europe.<br />

Lee, Miranda Y. P. teaches bilingual communicati<strong>on</strong> courses at The H<strong>on</strong>g K<strong>on</strong>g Polytechnic University<br />

(PolyU). Before joining PolyU, she worked at a global logistics corporati<strong>on</strong> as Management Associate. Her<br />

Leipzig, John S. is currently the Chancellor of the University of the Virgin Islands (UVI), St. Thomas<br />

campus, and Professor of Communicati<strong>on</strong> at UVI. Prior to joining UVI, he was Dean of the College of<br />

Liberal Arts and Professor of Communicati<strong>on</strong>, University of Alaska, Fairbanks (UAF). He was recently<br />

awarded the title of Emeritus Dean and Professor at UAF. Earlier in his career, Dr. Leipzig served as the<br />

Internati<strong>on</strong>al Visiting Fellow in Communicati<strong>on</strong> Studies at Kuring-gai College of Advanced Educati<strong>on</strong>,<br />

now part of the University of Technology, Sydney, Australia. He held previous faculty positi<strong>on</strong>s in Idaho,<br />

Missouri and Florida. Dr. Leipzig is the author of over three dozen publicati<strong>on</strong>s in books and refereed<br />

journals, proceedings and c<strong>on</strong>venti<strong>on</strong> presentati<strong>on</strong>s writing primarily in his specialty of organizati<strong>on</strong>al and<br />

small group communicati<strong>on</strong>. Most recently, Dr. Leipzig has been writing about communicati<strong>on</strong> ethics and<br />

organizati<strong>on</strong>al transformati<strong>on</strong>s in higher educati<strong>on</strong>. Dr. Leipzig earned a B.A. in Speech Communicati<strong>on</strong><br />

from The University of South Florida and a Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Communicati<strong>on</strong> from Kent State<br />

University in Ohio, U.S.A. Dr. Leipzig is a member of <str<strong>on</strong>g>CCI</str<strong>on</strong>g>’s Board of Advisors.<br />

Middlemiss, Nigel is Practice Director at Echo Research. Before joining Echo, Mr. Middlemiss held senior<br />

communicati<strong>on</strong>s posts in the nuclear energy industry, with resp<strong>on</strong>sibilities for research into public and<br />

media attitudes, advertising, educati<strong>on</strong>, informati<strong>on</strong> management and other outreach programs. He has<br />

presented <strong>on</strong> reputati<strong>on</strong> and communicati<strong>on</strong>s issues at c<strong>on</strong>ferences in Ontario, Washingt<strong>on</strong>, Paris, Berlin,<br />

Moscow and elsewhere. He is an accredited Member of the UK’s Chartered Institute of Public Relati<strong>on</strong>s,<br />

the US-based Issue Management Council, and the Committee for the Public Understanding of Science. He<br />

received a Master of Arts from Mert<strong>on</strong> College Oxford and speaks French, German and Bulgarian.<br />

McIlheran, John heads the Sales Communicati<strong>on</strong> Department at Physicians Mutual Insurance Company.<br />

His resp<strong>on</strong>sibilities are to maintain an interactive dialogue of all marketing and sales support efforts with<br />

the company’s sales teams located throughout the United States. His area is also resp<strong>on</strong>sible for<br />

coordinating and routing all special requests from the field pers<strong>on</strong>nel. John’s current focus is <strong>on</strong> new<br />

technologies and their affect <strong>on</strong> corporate communicati<strong>on</strong>. He previously worked for Travelex as their<br />

North American Marketing Manager and developed the company’s first <strong>on</strong>line presence. His model was<br />

used in Travelex’s other worldwide locati<strong>on</strong>s and now accounts for a sizeable percentage of their annual<br />

foreign currency and travel insurance revenue. John holds bachelor’s degrees in English and Journalism<br />

from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln and is working <strong>on</strong> his MS in Communicati<strong>on</strong> Science from<br />

Bellevue University.<br />

Molesworth, Mike is a lecturer in <strong>on</strong>line behavior and interactive media in the Media School at<br />

Bournemouth University. He previously worked in sales and marketing. His main research interest is in<br />

playful c<strong>on</strong>sumer behaviors in computer-mediated envir<strong>on</strong>ments. He is a regular presenter at the Academy<br />

of Marketing c<strong>on</strong>ference in the UK and presented at the first Digital Games Research Associati<strong>on</strong><br />

c<strong>on</strong>ference in Utrecht in 2003. He has also published papers in the Journal of Marketing Management, the<br />

Neer, Rita is a managing partner with Timely Ideas Corporati<strong>on</strong>, an independent c<strong>on</strong>sultancy that helps<br />

industries, functi<strong>on</strong>s and generati<strong>on</strong>s, and range from CEO’s to functi<strong>on</strong>al groups, small businesses and<br />

individual workers. Prior to her work as an independent c<strong>on</strong>sultant, Ms. Neer spent fifteen years with a<br />

corporate writing at the Queensland University of Technology and at Cornell University, U.S.A. Dr. Petelin<br />

edits the Australian Journal of Communicati<strong>on</strong> and is a c<strong>on</strong>sultant <strong>on</strong> corporate writing and editing to many<br />

Purushothaman, Shoba is President and Chief Executive Officer of The NewsMarket, Inc., a company<br />

she co-founded in New York City in 2000. The NewsMarket is a pi<strong>on</strong>eering broadcast news service that<br />

brings newsmakers and journalists together via a single Web-based platform, to create a more efficient<br />

envir<strong>on</strong>ment for the exchange of video news c<strong>on</strong>tent. She began her career as a business journalist<br />

including the Wall Street Journal and Dow J<strong>on</strong>es Newswires in Washingt<strong>on</strong>, D.C., New York and L<strong>on</strong>d<strong>on</strong>.<br />

The NewsMarket is her sec<strong>on</strong>d entrepreneurial venture with the same co-founder. Their first company was<br />

successfully acquired in 2001 by a top-ten global marketing services group. In January <strong>2005</strong> issue of Inc.<br />

magazine, Ms. Purushothaman was named <strong>on</strong>e of six finalists for the publicati<strong>on</strong>’s 2004 Entrepreneur of<br />

the Year Awards. She was recently selected as <strong>on</strong>e of six emerging women entrepreneurs to be protégés in<br />

Rodrigues, Lúcia Lima is Associate Professor in the School of Ec<strong>on</strong>omics and Management, Department<br />

of Management at the University of Minho, Braga, Portugal. She is the author of several books (in<br />

Portuguese) and has published in respected internati<strong>on</strong>al scholarly journals covering accounting and<br />

financial reporting, communicati<strong>on</strong> of companies’ social resp<strong>on</strong>sibilities, accounting history, selected<br />

Santos, Gilmar J. is Professor and Researcher at the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais teaching<br />

the director of the Bachelor in Social Communicati<strong>on</strong> <strong>Program</strong> from 1995 to 1998. Dr. Santos<br />

Scalzo, Nicholas J. is a Doctoral Candidate in the Executive Leadership Doctoral program at The George<br />

organizati<strong>on</strong>al change, organizati<strong>on</strong>al memory, and team performance. He earned his MBA at the New<br />

York Institute of Technology (NYIT), where he is an Adjunct Professor in the Graduate School of<br />

Management. He teaches courses in Organizati<strong>on</strong>al Behavior, Strategic Human Resources Management,<br />

Training & Development of Human Resources, and Research Methods. Scalzo’s entire career has been in<br />

the areas of organizati<strong>on</strong>al development and human resource management. He is also a Director – Senior<br />

Human Resource Generalist for the Depository Trust & Clearing Corporati<strong>on</strong> (DTCC). Prior to joining<br />

DTCC, he was with J.P. Morgan and the Dime Savings Bank. Additi<strong>on</strong>ally, he leads OnTrack Training,<br />

Scott, Patricia B. founded and is currently President and CEO of Ultimate Synergy, a training and<br />

development company. Dr. Scott received her B.A. in communicati<strong>on</strong> and earned her sec<strong>on</strong>dary teaching<br />

certificate from the University of Dayt<strong>on</strong>. She received her M.A. in corporate and organizati<strong>on</strong>al<br />

communicati<strong>on</strong> from Fairleigh Dickins<strong>on</strong> University. Dr. Scott completed the Ph.D. program in the School<br />

of Communicati<strong>on</strong>, Informati<strong>on</strong> and Library Studies at Rutgers University in 2003. For 13 years she<br />

worked for Synthes, which is a world leader in the manufacture and distributi<strong>on</strong> of medical devices for<br />

b<strong>on</strong>e fracture repair. As Director of Training and Development, she was able to c<strong>on</strong>struct a <strong>Corporate</strong><br />

University Best in Class (CUBIC) award winning web based virtual campus to highlight all company<br />

educati<strong>on</strong>al offerings.<br />

So, Daniel W. C. is an associate professor in the Department of Chinese & Bilingual Studies (CBS) at The<br />

H<strong>on</strong>g K<strong>on</strong>g Polytechnic University (PolyU) and the leader of the program B.A. (H<strong>on</strong>s) Language &<br />

Communicati<strong>on</strong>. He has been appointed by the CE of the H<strong>on</strong>g K<strong>on</strong>g SAR to committees including the<br />

Language Fund Advisory Committee and the standing committee <strong>on</strong> Language Educati<strong>on</strong> & Research. At<br />

Poly U he is a member of the President’s c<strong>on</strong>sultative group advising the President <strong>on</strong> policy issues<br />

including those related to corporate governance and identity. His specialties are in bilingual<br />

communicati<strong>on</strong>, bilingual educati<strong>on</strong>, and language policy and planning. He has been published in refereed<br />

journals and publicati<strong>on</strong> <strong>on</strong> topics about H<strong>on</strong>g K<strong>on</strong>g vis-à-vis bilingualism in educati<strong>on</strong>, and language and<br />

society. In recent years, in c<strong>on</strong>necti<strong>on</strong> with CBS’s development of a minors degree program titled Bilingual<br />

<strong>Corporate</strong> Communicati<strong>on</strong>, to be offered under Dr. So’s leadership in the fall of 2006, he has initiated<br />

several funded research projects with his colleagues to c<strong>on</strong>duct studies <strong>on</strong> language-mediated<br />

communicati<strong>on</strong> in corporate c<strong>on</strong>text within Greater China. One of the foci of the investigati<strong>on</strong> explores<br />

within-culture and cross-culture variati<strong>on</strong> of norms in corporate communicati<strong>on</strong> in various mediums<br />

(including the web) across different polities of Greater China.<br />

Swans<strong>on</strong>, D<strong>on</strong> R. is a seas<strong>on</strong>ed educator, communicati<strong>on</strong> coach, trainer, mediator, and c<strong>on</strong>sultant <strong>on</strong><br />

corporate communicati<strong>on</strong>. He c<strong>on</strong>sults regularly as an executive coach, facilitates c<strong>on</strong>flict management,<br />

strategic planning and team building interventi<strong>on</strong>s, does specialized presentati<strong>on</strong> and media training, and<br />

c<strong>on</strong>sults with diversity management programs. Since 1995, Dr. Swans<strong>on</strong> has been the Chair of the<br />

Department of Communicati<strong>on</strong> at M<strong>on</strong>mouth University, West L<strong>on</strong>g Branch, New Jersey, U.S.A. He was<br />

formerly the Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Guam. He received<br />

Thomsen, Christa is Assistant Professor in the ASB Centre for Business Communicati<strong>on</strong> at the Aarhus<br />

Schoolof Business. Prior to this academic role, she was a c<strong>on</strong>sultant to The Danish Nati<strong>on</strong>al Centre for<br />

Inclusive Labor, project coordinator for the Northern Vocati<strong>on</strong>al Rehabilitati<strong>on</strong> Centre in the County of<br />

Aarhus and lecturer at the Aarhus School of Business. Her teaching areas are corporate social<br />

resp<strong>on</strong>sibility, and internal stakeholders <strong>on</strong> the masters level and internal communicati<strong>on</strong> and<br />

organizati<strong>on</strong>al culture <strong>on</strong> the bachelors level. Dr. Thomsen research areas of interests are corporate<br />

Tour<strong>on</strong>, Philip is finishing the final stages of his doctoral degree entitled “Adopti<strong>on</strong> of Internati<strong>on</strong>al<br />

GAAP by French Firms”. Internati<strong>on</strong>al accounting is his primary teaching and research field. His paper,<br />

“The Adopti<strong>on</strong> of Foreign GAAP by French Firms before the Creati<strong>on</strong> of IASC” has been accepted for<br />

journal publicati<strong>on</strong>. He has presented his c<strong>on</strong>clusi<strong>on</strong>s at numerous c<strong>on</strong>ferences and has created a module<br />

for Master of Science programs. Mr. Tour<strong>on</strong> also teaches in an Executive MBA program, has published in<br />

the area of research methodology, and is involved in a finance manager’s think-tank about the<br />

advises clients <strong>on</strong> strategic planning, corporate and sales positi<strong>on</strong>ing, and crisis management. Ms. Vause<br />

started her career in publishing and worked at VNU Business Publicati<strong>on</strong>s for five years managing leading<br />

titles including Pers<strong>on</strong>al Computer World, Pers<strong>on</strong>al Computer Magazine, Var World, What PC? and Micro<br />

Decisi<strong>on</strong>. She first joined Roderick Manhattan Group Ltd as Marketing Manager. She was promoted to<br />

General Manager and was an instrumental player in the growth of RMG to its leading positi<strong>on</strong>. At RMG<br />

she was <strong>on</strong>e of the founder members of PlanIT Software - a wholly owned subsidiary of RMG. In 1995 Ms.<br />

Vause founded Vause and Associates, a specialist IT PR agency. In 1997 Vause and Associates merged<br />

with Flapjack Communicati<strong>on</strong>s. Flapjack Communicati<strong>on</strong>s grew to be <strong>on</strong>e of the leading high-tech PR<br />

agencies reaching 114 in the PRWeek top 150 league tables. In November 2001 Flapjack merged with<br />

Midnight Communicati<strong>on</strong>s to form <strong>on</strong>e of the leading independent PR c<strong>on</strong>sultancies in the UK. She cofounded<br />

Peppercom UK with Steve Cody and Ed Moed in April 2002. Ms. Vaus is a member of the<br />

Institute of Public Relati<strong>on</strong>s and the Lady Taverners.<br />

Volkova, Katerina has a diploma with awards in linguistics and internati<strong>on</strong>al cooperati<strong>on</strong> from Ulyanovsk<br />

State University, Russia, in 2003. The theme of her graduate thesis was Gender Aspects of Computer-<br />

Mediated Communicati<strong>on</strong>. Ms. Volkava is a sec<strong>on</strong>d year post-graduate focusing <strong>on</strong> the cultural diversity<br />

aspects of computer-mediated communicati<strong>on</strong> in organizati<strong>on</strong>al communicati<strong>on</strong>. During her studies she has<br />

published several articles in Russian and global science journals and Internet resources and took part in<br />

c<strong>on</strong>ferences and seminars <strong>on</strong> linguistics and sociology. Her academic areas of interests are gender issues,<br />

netiquette, corporate communicati<strong>on</strong> culture, communicati<strong>on</strong> barriers and communicati<strong>on</strong> strategies in<br />

computer-mediated communicati<strong>on</strong>. She is currently Pers<strong>on</strong>al Assistant for the Managing Director of<br />

AirBridge Cargo Airlines, Russia.<br />

Wei, Y<strong>on</strong>g-Kang is Assistant Professor at the University of Texas at Brownsville. Dr. Wei’s research<br />

interests include business and technical communicati<strong>on</strong>, intercultural communicati<strong>on</strong>, and n<strong>on</strong>-Western<br />

rhetorics.<br />

de Wet, Gide<strong>on</strong> is Chair of the Department of Communicati<strong>on</strong> at the University of Johannesburg. Prior to<br />

this positi<strong>on</strong>, he was the director of the School of Communicati<strong>on</strong> Studies at Potchestroom University and<br />

the Head of the Department of Communicati<strong>on</strong>, Vice-Dean, and Acting Dean of the Faculty of Social<br />

Sciences and strategic advisor to the vice Chancellor or the University. Before his career in academia, Dr.<br />

de Wet occupied a number of positi<strong>on</strong>s in the private and public business sectors and c<strong>on</strong>tinues to be<br />

involved in private c<strong>on</strong>sulting work. He was President of the Southern African Communicati<strong>on</strong> Associati<strong>on</strong><br />

and is serving <strong>on</strong> the editorial boards of communicati<strong>on</strong> journals Equid Novi and COMMUNICARE. He is<br />

currently Editor of COMMUNICARE, the official journal of the Southern African Communicati<strong>on</strong><br />

Associati<strong>on</strong>. He has an active interest in development and corporate communicati<strong>on</strong> and was the co-editor<br />

of the book Sustainable Social Development. Critical Issues (2002). Dr. de Wet’s research involves a<br />

SANPAD research project <strong>on</strong> Local Aids Councils in North West Province of South Africa and is currently<br />

working <strong>on</strong> agenda setting and HIV/Aids news sources. His teaching resp<strong>on</strong>sibilities include corporate<br />

communicati<strong>on</strong> research and communicati<strong>on</strong> research methodology to both undergraduate and postgraduate<br />

students. He earned his doctorate from the University of Johannesburg (previously RAU), his MA<br />

and BA degrees in communicati<strong>on</strong> from the University of the Free State<br />

Wiencek, Nancy A. is Assistant Professor of Communicati<strong>on</strong>, Department of Communicati<strong>on</strong>, M<strong>on</strong>mouth<br />

University where she specializes in public relati<strong>on</strong>s, research methods, fund raising management, and<br />

professi<strong>on</strong>al communicati<strong>on</strong>. Dr. Wiencek has over fifteen years experience in strategic planning and<br />

management of public relati<strong>on</strong>s and fund raising initiatives, as well as extensive experience with executivelevel<br />

communicati<strong>on</strong> initiatives. Previous to her current positi<strong>on</strong>, she held a <strong>on</strong>e-year appointment as a<br />

Visiting Assistant Professor at M<strong>on</strong>mouth University.<br />

W<strong>on</strong>g, Lornita is an assistant professor a the H<strong>on</strong>g K<strong>on</strong>g Polytechnic University in Hung Hom, Kowlo<strong>on</strong>.<br />
