Placement
KNOW YOUR LEARNERS FROM DAY ONE. ELLIS Placement helps
you take the guesswork out of identifying learners’ needs by
placing them within the ELLIS Suite of products.
In the past, one of the greatest challenges in ESL instruction has been initial student
evaluations. Every learner has different strengths and weaknesses, and
conventional testing methods are time-consuming.
The adaptive testing program, ELLIS Placement, tests each learner's abilities in all
skill areas: reading, writing, speaking, grammar, vocabulary, and listening comprehension–all
in as little as 30 minutes.
Each test is randomly generated from over
1,000 questions. Depending on the learner's
response to each question, Placement adapts
its level of difficulty to better match the
learner's ability. This improvement over conventional
testing reduces the frustration
learners face when they are tested outside
This adaptive test identifies learners’ their skill level. This not only greatly shortens
abilities in all skill areas and places them
the time needed for assessment, but also
within the ELLIS Suite.
yields more accurate results.
After estimating each learner's range of ESL proficiency in grammar, reading, vocabulary,
and listening comprehension, Placement will suggest the ELLIS lesson that best
suits the needs of each learner in each skill area.
In addition, instructors can have Placement administer a written and oral exam
within that learner's skill level. Written and recorded responses are stored for
evaluation at the instructor’s convenience.
Placement can also be used as a stand-alone testing instrument. Institutions can
administer the test as often as needed to an unlimited number of students at
no additional cost.
A friend indeed! Imagine
having someone help you in
your own language. That’s
why we called him “Friend.”
Speak up! ELLIS provides thousands
of speaking activities. Record your
voice at any time and compare it
with that of a native speaker.
