DRIVING<br />

Gear Shifting :<br />

The gearshift pattern is shown on the<br />

gear shift lever knob. All forward<br />

gears being synchronized, provide<br />

easy and effortless gear shifting.<br />

Always remember to press the clutch<br />

pedal fully while shifting the gears<br />

and also to release the clutch pedal<br />

gently.<br />

Avoid sudden clutching i.e. abrupt<br />

release of depressed clutch pedal.<br />

NOTICE<br />

The reverse gear should be<br />

engaged only when the car is<br />

stationary. Wait for 5 seconds after<br />

de clutching to ensure smooth<br />

engagement of the reverse gear.<br />

Braking<br />

The distance required to bring a car<br />

to a halt increase with the speed of<br />

the vehicle. The braking distance<br />

needed for vehicle at 60 kmph will be<br />

approximately 4 times greater than the<br />

braking distance needed at 30 kmph.<br />

Anticipate your stop, slowdown<br />

gradually and apply brake.<br />

If water gets into the brake drums,<br />

brake performance may become poor<br />

and unpredictable. After driving through<br />

water or washing the underside of the<br />

vehicle, test the brake while driving at<br />

slow speed to see if they have<br />

maintained there normal<br />

effectiveness. If the brakes are less<br />

effective than normal, dry them by<br />

repeatedly applying the brake while<br />

driving slowly until the brakes have<br />

regained their normal effectiveness.<br />

GEAR SHIFTING, BRAKING & PARKING<br />

The non-booster type braking<br />

system may not be fitted in the<br />

Standard model, while the CX and<br />

LX models are provided with<br />

booster-assisted braking system.<br />

The booster and non-booster<br />

versions provide similar braking<br />

performance for the vehicle.<br />

However, the amount of braking effort<br />

required by the driver to activate the<br />

brakes would be lesser in the brakebooster<br />

models.<br />

Parking<br />

Park the car in a safe place.<br />

Apply the parking brake.<br />

Ensure that all window glasses are<br />

closed & all lamps are turned ‘OFF’<br />

At night, put on the parking lights if<br />

required.<br />

WARNING<br />

Do not leave the key inside the car.<br />

Do not leave children unattended<br />

in the car.<br />

Avoid parking the car over<br />

inflammable materials, such as dry<br />

leaves, grass etc., as the exhaust<br />

system is hot enough to initiate<br />

‘FIRE’.<br />

NOTICE<br />

When parking on a steep slope,<br />

do not rely on the parking brake<br />

alone to hold the vehicle. Leave<br />

the vehicle parked with gear box<br />

in low forward gear when facing<br />

uphill and reverse gear when<br />

facing downhill.
