Suunto and Apa Sherpa reach the top of
the world
Widely recognized as the world’s greatest living
mountaineer, Suunto Ambassador Apa Sherpa has
reached the top of the world a record 19 times
and in the Spring of 2010 will seek to push that
record to 20. Using his Suunto to make the summit,
Apa has lead teams up Mt. Everest with amazing
success, both in reaching the top and keeping
people safe. Now, Apa Sherpa is embarking on a
new endeavor and once again Suunto will be there
to help the cause.
In the summer of 2010, Apa is returning to his
home village of Thame to improve education and
economic opportunities for the children living
in the remote village near the Base Camp of Mt.
Everest. Suunto will provide support with logistics,
transport and materials for the library and assist the
Apa Sherpa Foundation as they construct shelves,
catalog books and set up a lending system for the
library.
Despite his climbing success, Apa says he would
have planned his life differently. He would give up
his climbing records for a good education and a
career as a medical doctor. Suunto recognizes and
admires Apa Sherpa’s cause and work. By working
together, Suunto and the Apa Sherpa Foundation
strive to provide a solid education for all the
children of Thame.
