Introduction to Application Guides
• It is a legal requirement that a battery is securely fitted to a vehicle.
• It is also important that any heat shields or protective enclosures fitted to the vehicle from new by the vehicle
manufacturer are always replaced when the battery is changed. The heat shields are fitted to protect the battery
from excess heat and dirt that could possibly reduce the life of the battery.
• The catalogue shows the “recommended” type or types for particular vehicles. In some cases batteries from
different ranges are recommended, but in other cases, batteries from only one range are recommended.
• If only an Elite battery is recommended, you must not sell a customer a battery from the Professional range as these
will not be suitable. The fitment will be correct, but the battery will not have sufficient power to start the car under all
conditions and so the customer will be dissatisfied. Also, it may be linked with an installation issue e.g. additional
strap clamping on Rover 75, which interferes with the flame arresting pod on the Professional range.
• Similarly if an AGM battery is recommended for a vehicle, only an AGM battery should be fitted as a replacement.
AGM batteries are designed with greater demands in mind and deemed essential by vehicle manufacturers to meet
the specific electrical requirements of the vehicle.
• There is no problem in fitting a higher specification battery within the same range to a vehicle. There is a myth that a
more powerful battery can damage the starter motor or that the alternator will not be able to charge the battery; these
are wrong.A more powerful battery will start the vehicle over a wider range of conditions and will have a longer life as
it will not be worked so hard. This clearly benefits the customer and should be offered as an option to the customer,
especially if the vehicle is believed to be subject to heavy usage or additional equipment has been fitted to the vehicle.
• In some cases the battery tray on the vehicle will allow a longer more powerful battery to be fitted. This is not a
problem providing that the battery hold-down will secure the battery and the battery does not foul the underside of
the bonnet causing damage or a short circuit. With European vehicles, a series of holes may be tapped into the body in
white to allow different sized batteries to be fitted for different specifications; always ensure that the battery is
clamped using the central holddowns on the battery.
• Under new consumer legislation, offering a recommendation for a vehicle that is not listed in this catalogue will make
you legally responsible if a problem should occur. Further advice on older classic fitments not included in the
catalogue can be sort by contacting:
E mail enquires@yuasa-sales.co.uk
We recommend that you write on the receipt:“Sold as a non catalogue fitment at the customer’s own risk.”
This will not affect the battery warranty with respect to faulty materials or workmanship
While we make every effort to specify the correct battery for each application, we occasionally have some errors as a
result of one of the following circumstances:
• Vehicles are sometimes made in different factories in different countries and these can sometimes be fitted
with different types and sizes. This has been found to be the case with many Japanese vehicle manufacturers
where originally, the vehicle was launched in the Far East market, then production of limited model ranges
started later at European manufacturing sites. It can lead to similar specification vehicles having completely
different sized batteries fitted. We have identified in the catalogue where we know of a multifit option being
used on the same model.
• Vehicles can be “grey imports” generally from Japan or available through Car Supermarkets from Southern
Europe. These often do not have the same batteries as those similar vehicles that are normally imported into
the UK for UK climatic operation.
• Vehicle manufacturers sometimes change the type of battery during a production run, perhaps as the result of a
supply problem with the original battery and/or on the occasion of a model face lift.Additionally high
specification vehicles built for engineering trials are sold through dealership after development has been
completed.
• New models are being released every week by the vehicle manufacturers, we attempt to keep our database up
to date at all times, but this catalogue was current only at the date of printing. The web page below is updated
with the latest installation guide:-
We recommend that old and new batteries should be compared prior to installation.
