KINGBOROUGH VOLUNTEER PROGRAM
The Kingborough Volunteer Program is one of
Tasmania’s only Council-funded-and-operated
social programs designed to support older local
residents.
It has expanded rapidly since being founded
in 2012, and now has about 70 volunteers
supporting more than 170 clients with things
like transport, shopping, gardening and social
activities.
Whenever possible, volunteers and clients
are matched to suit their personalities and
interests.

The program was started after the Kingborough
Positive Ageing Plan identified the need to help
extend the time that older residents are able to
live independently in their own homes.
It also provides respite for family and carers,
and can refer participants to other community
resources.
