Dear Band Enthusiasts,
May is upon us which means it is the beginning of the end
of the 2010-2011 academic year. Music Districts were last
month and were hosted at GICC. The band fared quite well
as they had an impressive three superiors, Cody McGregor,
trombone; Aaron Avitia, timpani; and the Low Brass Trio,
Cody McGregor, Jacob Vega, and Patrick Schuster. These
fine performances will be showcased during the spring
concert. The remaining score tally included four excellent
standings and a one good rating. Needless to say, I was very
proud of the kids and their hard work. All available senior
band high kids were involved as either a soloist or as part
of a small ensemble and all had very positive experiences.
May has three very important final events: the Fine Arts
Awards on May 2, the concert on May 9, and the graduation
ceremony on May 14. The concert protocol will be the same
for this concert as in previous concerts. All band participants
grades 5-12 are expected to watch the entire program. They
will be excused for their performance then asked to return to
7 th grade Life Skills students had the opportunity to participate
in an etiquette dinner at Central Community College
in Hastings on March 29 th . The students looked like professionals
in their dress up clothing. The boys escorted the girls
into the building and seated them at their table. We learned
about proper etiquette from Jay Kieselhorst, the head of the
culinary arts program. He stressed the importance of know-
the audience after their performance. I hope you are ready
to listen to many styles and sizes of music throughout the
entire concert. The 7th and 8th grade band is ready and will
be assisting with the graduation ceremony on May 14. Due
to a lack of available dates, the Fine Arts Awards will be
shared with the Academic Awards. In order to better utilize
the short amount of time available, the 7-12 band awards will
be streamlined as much as possible.
Lastly, the beginning and 6 th grade bands are working
diligently with their program music. The kids are already
aware of possible awards they may qualify for. Many will
be excited to be recognized for their hard work and effort
showing in the past year. The awards will be presented during
the elementary awards day the end of the year.
break a possible job opportunity. Our meal was fantastic. It
included: Crab Cakes in Garlic Aioli, Garden Cheese Soup,
Lemon Lime Sorbet, Coq Au Vin, Woodland’s Rice, Broccoli
Almondine, Raspberry Vinaigrette Salad, Rocky Road Towers,
and Challa Bread. This is something they will remember
and be able to use for the rest of their lives.
