Discussion and Action on Non-Renewal of Non-Tenured Teachers
DISCUSSION: Superintendent Merlone explained that she is presenting the Board with the names of the non-tenured
teachers that will be non-renewed in the event that we do not receive an increase in our 2011-2012 budget from the
City. We will unfortunately have to lay off some teachers. Mr. Lawlor added, basically, as in previous years, this is just
an action because we need to notify these teachers by the end of this month. Mrs. Merlone said she notified the
teachers of this Board meeting in a letter. Once the Board votes on this item, she will notify the teachers again of the
action taken in a letter, along with a sign-off notice that they received the letter. Mr. Lawlor said it should be very clear
to the teachers that this is obviously reflective of what we receive in our 2011-2012 budget and nothing else. Mrs.
Merlone said, hopefully, if we do receive some money we could maybe rescind these letters. Mr. Lawlor added that we
are required to protect ourselves with correct notification. We are left with no choice.
MOTION: That the contract of employment of
Mirljinda Krivca, Anabella Antunes, Rebecca Seibert,
Sharon Wrzosek, Jessica Francesconi, Jennifer
Hamrin, Amanda Lombardozzi, Jeffry Lawlor, Sarah
Bilodeau, Amy Matott, Jennifer Kish, Megan Splaine,
Colin McManus, Cynthia Musante, James Wilson,
Christopher Scionti, Stacey Huzi, Megan Blanchard,
Elizabeth Abraham, Megan McGill, Krista Nori,
Caroline Napoli, Kevin Mozealous, Pranvera Davidhi,
and Frank DiPasquale, which is scheduled to expire
at the end of the 2010-2011 school year, is not to be
renewed for the 2011-2012 school year, and that the
Superintendent of Schools, Carol Merlone, be
directed to advise these individuals of this action in
writing.

Discussion and Possible Action on Voluntary Retirement Incentive Plan
DISCUSSION: Superintendent Merlone said Mr. Gaskins, business manager, has put together a teacher’s voluntary
retirement incentive plan. We were hoping to get a minimum of five teachers. We have a young staff. She said she has heard
from two staff members who are interested. Ms. DiGiorgi asked, will you only do this if you have five staff members? Mrs.
Merlone said she is asking the Board to approve the plan even though we only have two interested staff members. It won’t be
much of a savings for the Board however; anything is worth saving our young teachers. Mr. Boath asked Mr. Gaskins, what is
the potential cost savings if only two accept the proposal? Mr. Gaskins said based on the feedback we received it would be
approximately $8,500 savings. Mrs. Merlone said this will allow two more teachers to stay employed.
MOTION: To offer the voluntary retirement incentive plan
to those teachers who are eligible with the criteria set
forth by the Superintendent.
