Collected in Brownsville, but native to Mexico. Tree to 25 feet high, 20-<br />

25 years old, prolific fruiting; trunk 1 foot in diameter; bark smooth, tight,<br />

mottled light and dark gray; crown spreading; foliage dense; leaves alternate,<br />

trifoliately compound, leathery, citruslike; fruit yellow, asymmetrical,<br />

to 2 inches long, in clusters, one-seeaed, may be edible, but sometimes slightly<br />

bitter, beginning to ripen early August; pulp fleshy, sweet; seed asymmetrical,<br />

hard. Tree cold hardy at Brownsville; has ornamental possibilities.<br />
