compact, glaucous; some panicles in bud.

Col. No. 20342. Local name: Tonichio. Zapotitlan, Puebla, 4 miles
southwest of Tehuacan. Elevation 1,600 meters. Rosettes small to
medium size; leaves dark green, bronze to yellow green; flowers greenish
purple to dark purple.

Col. No. 20226. Local name: Rabo e Leon. Along road to Zapotitlan,
Puebla, 8 km. south of Tehuacan. Elevation 1,800 meters. Plants dense,
cespitose, polycarpic; leaves short, nonstriate; peduncles to 3 meters high,
buds and tepals dark purple outside; corolla greenish purple within.
Cacaiuitas, a native dish, is made with buds cooked in salt water and
mixed with eggs.

Oaxaca de Juarez. Plant bluish glaucous; leaves swordlike, long. Cultivated
for mescal; matures in 8 years.

gray; leaves plane, ascending; peduncles to 8 meters high with up to 20

inflorescence; peduncle to 7 meters high with 20 laterals; tepals with
