Math Contests
During the month of September, all teachers in the math department had
sign-up forms for the Pennsylvania Math League Club. All club members
will be taking part in our two major contests - Pennsylvania Math League
and the American Math Competition (AMC).
The Pennsylvania Math League contests are six half-hour tests given during the school day once a
month from October to March. The AMC is a 75 minute test given during school once a year in
February. The content for both tests is primarily algebra and geometry, with occasional questions in
probability, trigonometry, sequences, and logarithms. All math contests require logic and reasoning
beyond the usual math curriculum, so that students who join Math League as freshmen and sophomores
benefit greatly from several years of attempting problems and studying the solutions.
Students in the Math Contest Club will receive information on other competitions throughout the
school year. Teams have been sent to local university contests at Princeton, Bucknell, Muhlenberg,
Millersville, and Lehigh University. Advanced Calculus classes take part in a Calculus League competition
as well. For more information and practice problems for these competitions, see Mrs. Hoffert,
room 359, Pennsylvania Math League Club advisor, or visit Mrs. Hoffert's school website.
Graduation Project
All juniors have met with Graduation Project advisors in late September to discuss individual progress.
Juniors are reminded once again that they should be completing their Career Cruising portfolio
and resume and their shadowing experience. Shadowing verification forms will be due the first
week of December. For more Graduation Project information and due dates, please visit the school
web site.
American Red Cross Club of EHS
Is Sponsoring a Summer Book Drive
The American Red Cross Club of Emmaus High School will sponsor a Summer Reading Book Drive. The
club members will place collection boxes in the English classrooms and encourage students to donate their
summer reading books during the month of October. The students will receive one voucher per book (many
teachers are holding the vouchers for their students until the spring). The vouchers can be exchanged in the
spring for the required books on the next year’s reading list.
Last year the students collected and distributed over 1,200 books. Please encourage your child to turn in
summer books and participate in this project! If there are any questions, contact Mrs. Sherwood, Club
Advisor: room 567 in the high school.
