The Balance & Falls Prevention module is a balance and strength exercise
programme to help prevent falls. In this module you will find exercises to
improve balance, strength and speed strength.
Balance & Falls Prevention by the WELMED project is suitable for people who
need to improve their balance and muscular strength to help prevent falls and
fractures. To prevent falls, speed strength skills are needed, for example
being able to take a quick step or to quickly grab for support.
The exercises are used for rehabilitation and general fitness. They are used
by physiotherapists, professionals working with geriatrics, personal trainers,
fitness instructors, sport therapists and researchers.
The most common risk factors for falls in older people are muscular
weakness, balance disorders and a history of previous falls. Strength and
balance training can help decrease the amount of falls and injuries caused by
falls by 15-50%.
