14 ONE SHOT By Angela Romeo Say the words “Palm Springs” and any number of images come to mind. Pools, movie stars, mountains, diversity of population, architecture. The images are as endless as one’s imagination. ONE Shot: Palm Springs opens May 15 at Archangel Gallery, located in the Uptown District of Palm Springs. This show features 25 original photographs by 25 artists. The goal – submit ONE and only one photograph that captures a unique perspective of Palm Springs. “ONE Shot: Palm Springs includes incredible photographers celebrating our special town,” said Michael Fiacco, owner of Archangel Gallery. “These photographs are each a part of what is special about Palm Springs. It was difficult and exciting to curate this show. All the work is special. Each captured moment unique.” A portion of the proceeds of sales from ONE Shot: Palm Springs will go to the Palm Springs Art Museum Photography Collection Council (PCC). Since 2008 the PCC has supported major photography exhibitions and programs that have included the work of Julius Shulman, Robert Mapplethorpe, Richard Avedon, David Hockney, Garry Winogrand, Herb Ritts, Cindy Sherman, John Baldessari, and Barbara Krueger. The upcoming show will feature One Moment in PS. This is my submission. The photo was taken at the foot of McManus Drive, near my home. I came upon this beautiful scene during my morning puppy stroll. I chose to submit this photograph because it captures the beauty and the fury of the Palm Springs winds. I saw the colors in the sky and knew that this one moment was uniquely Palm Springs. The finished work is 20 x 25 printed on metal. I chose metal because the colors in the photograph are so rich. Printing on metal allows the vibrancy of the colors to come forth. I also find that metal creates a luminous quality not found on paper. The photo submitted was cropped for size. It is 1 of a limited edition of 3. Shaktima Brien also submitted one photo. “The photo, Palm Springs North, was taken while visiting the Palm Springs Fine Art Fair. The floating banner reminded me to look at the sky. It reminded me to be grateful that I live in this oasis of Grace and Beauty. I am grateful to be in the oasis Palm Springs.” Shaktima’s work is also printed on metal. The 20 x 15 photograph is 1 of a limited edition of 2.
