LETTER FROM THE EDITORS
We are so ecstatic about summer because it is right around the
corner. The sun is being friendly and we are ready for everything
it has to offer. This month, we want to show you how soft
and simplistic we can be with expressing emotions, through
soft bright colors, to give you a taste of the summer. Our contributors
for this month showed us how excited they were by
playing with fun and subtle colors. Setting the mood for this
month’ s issue was definitely a swell treat. Enjoy!
Xoxo,
WATERMELON STRAWBERRY
SORBET
Written by Andie Fuller
April showers bring May sorbets… that’s the saying right?
The feeling in the air that summer is right around the corner is enough to melt my heart
with happiness. The changing of the seasons always gets me, I get a little sappy I get a little
too girly and romantic about all of it. When feelings like these arise I do the natural thing
and making something totally whimsical like watermelon, strawberry sorbet with a hint of
lavender.
And then my heart just skips an entire beat because all feels right and joyous in the world.
“And so with the sunshine and the great bursts of leaves growing on the trees, just as things
grow in fast movies, I had that familiar conviction that life was beginning over again with
the summer.” - F. Scott Fitzgerald
Want to celebrate the changing of the seasons and the ever closeness of the summer
months with me? Fill a blender with watermelon, strawberries, and a few dashes of culinary
lavender for good measure. In the spirit of summer enjoy alone with a sprig of mint or
‘pro tip’, add 2 small scoops to a glass of champagne for the ultimate sunny season treat.

RECIPE + INSTRUCTIONS
Here is what you need:
1 pint strawberries, hulled
½ a small seeded watermelon, diced
1/2 cup sugar
1 lemon, juiced
2 pinches of lavender
¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
optional: few sprigs of fresh mint
Here is what you do:
1. In blender, puree strawberries, watermelon, lemon juice, sugar, vanilla extract
and lavender until smooth, about 3-5 minutes.
2. Transfer puree to canister of an ice cream maker and process according to
manufacturer’s instructions. Keep sorbet in freezer until ready to use.
**Note if you don’t have an ice cream maker you can simply transfer the mixture
to a freezer safe dish and freeze. The texture will be a little bit different
more like shaved ice then a sorbet but delicious all the same.
