Volunteers play an incredible role at <strong>Rainbow</strong> <strong>Hospice</strong>. They serve as office support in Medical<br />
Records, Development <strong>and</strong> Admissions, play active roles in patient care <strong>and</strong> seek the formidable<br />
calling of vigil volunteer for someone who is actively dying.<br />
Volunteers<br />
Our bond with animals is<br />
unquestionable <strong>and</strong> studies have<br />
proven significant benefits to pet<br />
therapy, from decreases in pain <strong>and</strong><br />
anxiety to increases in cognitive<br />
stimulation <strong>and</strong> mood.<br />
Who: Wrigley<br />
Where: Mount Prospect, IL<br />
<strong>Rainbow</strong> <strong>Hospice</strong> supports<br />
patients with volunteer pet<br />
therapists certified by Therapy<br />
Dogs International. These canine<br />
companions <strong>and</strong> their human<br />
counterparts make visits to the<br />
bedsides of patients in nursing<br />
homes, long term care facilities, the<br />
<strong>Rainbow</strong> <strong>Hospice</strong> Ark, Inpatient<br />
Unit <strong>and</strong> even patient homes.<br />
<strong>Rainbow</strong> <strong>Hospice</strong> has an amazing<br />
roll call of volunteers. With more<br />
than 90 new volunteers joining<br />
us in FY ‘12 we now have nearly<br />
600 volunteers.<br />
The estimated benefit (at the<br />
national hourly rate) of all<br />
the volunteer work done for<br />
<strong>Rainbow</strong> <strong>Hospice</strong> comes to more<br />
than $547,000.<br />
Our volunteers put in an<br />
impressive amount of service.<br />
During FY ‘12 our volunteers<br />
contributed more than 25,000<br />
hours of work around the office<br />
<strong>and</strong> with our patients.<br />
