Volunteers play an incredible role at Rainbow Hospice. They serve as office support in Medical
Records, Development and Admissions, play active roles in patient care and seek the formidable
calling of vigil volunteer for someone who is actively dying.

Our bond with animals is
unquestionable and studies have
proven significant benefits to pet
therapy, from decreases in pain and
anxiety to increases in cognitive
stimulation and mood.

Rainbow Hospice supports
patients with volunteer pet
therapists certified by Therapy
Dogs International. These canine
companions and their human
counterparts make visits to the
bedsides of patients in nursing
homes, long term care facilities, the
Rainbow Hospice Ark, Inpatient
Unit and even patient homes.
Rainbow Hospice has an amazing
roll call of volunteers. With more
than 90 new volunteers joining
us in FY ‘12 we now have nearly
600 volunteers.
The estimated benefit (at the
national hourly rate) of all
the volunteer work done for
Rainbow Hospice comes to more
than $547,000.
Our volunteers put in an
impressive amount of service.
During FY ‘12 our volunteers
contributed more than 25,000
hours of work around the office
and with our patients.
