Greetings and welcome to Rainbow Hospice and Palliative Care. It has been a wonderful year for Rainbow Hospice and Palliative Care as we continue to grow and extend our mission to more and more people throughout Chicagoland. We have made some amazing progress in our last 365 days; spending our first year in our new home, surpassing 100,000 patient care days for the first time and once again becoming one of Modern Healthcare’s Best Places to Work. The year has not been without some significant challenges. We, like many others, face a distressing position from the State of Illinois with more than a 180 day delay in payment. Over the horizon, there are unprecedented changes to healthcare nationally and here at home. And, we continue to wrestle with the challenge of helping others find their way to relief with our services earlier. Yet despite these hurdles, we continue to grow. We are able to take our challenges and use them to innovate new ways to expand on the many facets of what we do. Hospice is about so much more than an illness. Whether you’re an expert or a newcomer, I hope this year’s annual report will help you understand what we do. I hope it will show you that our hospice is about making each day a good day for our patients, for as many days as possible. It is also about making a grieving child’s day a little safer, a medical resident’s day more instructive, a caregiver’s day more manageable, and a volunteer’s day a little more social. Each and every day, we are surrounded by exceptional people, from our staff and volunteers, to our amazing patients, their families and caregivers. It is our mission to bring them all dignity and hope so together, we can do more than just cope with the end of life.
