Annual Report
available online
Each year, council produces an
Annual Report as a legal
requirement, but also as an
opportunity to report to the
community on the delivery of
community visions, council’s
performance as an organisation and
work done during the year.
It highlights council’s
achievements and priorities and
outlines how it is addressing the
challenges faced in Townsville.
It presents the facts and indicates
how council is performing.
The 2011-12 Annual Report will be
available at www.townsville.qld.gov.au
in early December.
The report is available online and
copies will also be available to view
in council’s three CityLibraries
branches.
Five reasons to ‘take five’ with
council’s online annual report
1. Discover what services council
provides and what was done in
the community during 2011/12.
2. Learn about plans for 2012/13 and
what challenges lie ahead.
3. Find out where your rates go
– look over the summary
Community Financial Report or
review the detailed financial
statements.
4. Flick through some statistics such
as the number of potholes fixed,
rubbish bins emptied or hours
spent pruning trees in parks.
5. See how council is delivering on its
Community and Corporate Plans
and how council has considered
findings from the Community
Attitude Survey.
about some of
council’s bigger
works happening
about town?
The place to find out about
council works is now the
Townsville City Council website.
Works notices will now be
updated on council’s Public Works
page in real time, providing better
flexibility and offering more up to
date information to Townsville
residents.
This will replace the weekly paid
newspaper advertisement.
Information provided on the Public
Works web page is not just about
road works and will include
notices of special events,
Townsville Water works and park
Boat Park master plan unveiled
The master plan for the new Townsville
Recreational Boating Park is now available for
viewing on council’s website.
After input from local residents and the boating
community, the master plan that has been
developed includes the staged construction of 16
launching lanes, 360 car-trailer parking bays, two
pontoons, four floating walkways and public
parkland on the banks of Ross River in South
Townsville.
Deputy Mayor Cr Vern Veitch said the $25
million project would create one of the most
modern public marine facilities in Queensland.
Longer term plans also include an area for
commercial activities, including a dry boat
stacker, and other marine services.
“You would be hard pressed to find a better
site for public boat ramps anywhere in the State,
and a plan for facilities to match,” Cr Veitch said.
“We have a once in a lifetime opportunity with
a project of this size to design a modern
recreational boating facility from the ground up
with input from local residents and the boating
community.”
The project is a joint initiative of the Townsville
City Council, the Department of Transport and
Main Roads, and the Port of Townsville and it has
a five-year delivery timetable.
The project will now go to detailed design with
the start of construction scheduled for the
middle of next year and completion of Stage 1 by
the end of 2014.
