Biographical Sketch<br />

Professor Park is a Professor in the School of Materials Science and Engineering (since 1992) at<br />

Gyeongsang National University, Korea. He has been at the University since 1992 and was<br />

promoted to be a full professor in 2003. He served as a Chair of the Department from 3/1998-<br />

2/2000. He holds a Ph.D. degree in Materials Science & Engineering from Washington State<br />

University (1991), two M.S. degrees in Materials Science & Engineering from University of Utah<br />

(1987), and in Polymer Engineering from Pusan National University, Korea (1984), and a B.S.<br />

degree in Materials Science & Engineering from Pusan National University (1979). He was a Postdoctorial<br />

fellow at Cornell University (2/1992-8/1992) until he became an Assistant Professor at<br />

GNU. He was a Visiting Professor (9/2004-11/2006) and currently Adjunct Professor since 12/2006<br />

at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Utah. He served in the Korean Army<br />

at DMZ as 1st Lieutenant (Korean ROTC 17), as Platoon Leader and Acting Company Command,<br />

6th Infantry Division, from 1979-1981.


Academic Activities<br />

- He is currently a Vice president of Korea Society of Composite Materials (KSCM) since<br />

January 2010. He is also vice Director of 2 nd Stage Brain Korea 21, i-Cube Materials and<br />

Parts Center.<br />

- He was a Director of Advance Materials Center at Engineering Research Institute,<br />

Gyeongsang National University for January 1, 2004 to December, 2006. He became a<br />

member of the Editorial Advisory Board member of the Elsevier Journal, Composites Part<br />

B: Engineering, since January 1, 2004 and Advanced Composite Materials since 2007.<br />

- He is currently Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Korean Society of Composite Materials,<br />

and was the secretary and committee member of the Korean Society for Composite<br />

Materials. He is also an editor and a committee member of Korean Adhesion and Interface<br />

Society and a member of the Korean Polymer Society.<br />

- He is also working as co-chair of The 3 rd International Conference on Multi-functional<br />

Materials and Structures (MFMS 2010), Korea.<br />

- He was a member of the International Scientific Committee and Review Board for ICCE/7<br />

Facilities<br />

He has developed extensive facilities for composite materials fabrication and testing at Gyeongsang<br />

National University. Materials fabrication equipment includes: hot presses (hydraulic), vacuum<br />

furnaces (1000°C) and an autoclave (1HP F-60, 450 °C). Materials testing equipment includes a<br />

thermal analysis system (TA2100) which includes a differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) that is<br />

capable of specific heat measurement, and a dynamic mechanical analyzer (DMA), FT-IR with ATR<br />

(Genesis II), multi-meters (Hewlett Packard), oscilloscope, acoustic emission, power supplies, data<br />

acquisition systems, acoustic emission (Mistras2001), universal testing machine (UTM) systems<br />

(Lloyd 10K), a dynamic contact angle analyzer (Sigma 70), optical and polarized-light microscopes.<br />

A mini-tensile machine with controlled strain rate is also available. Many facilities including SEM<br />

(JSM 6400), TEM, and surface analysis equipment (ESCA) are located at the Research Center of<br />

Gyeongsang National University.<br />
