Carnival of Cranes

One of Europe’s great wildlife spectacles is the mass arrival of tens of
thousands of Common Cranes over the sweeping steppe grasslands of the
magnificent Hortobágy National Park, in eastern Hungary. In October, we also
have chances of Bean, White-fronted and Lesser White-fronted Geese along
with Great Bustard, White-tailed Eagle, Saker and Dotterel. Add a superb range
of woodpeckers, Hawfinch, and Ural and Eagle Owls in the glorious hill-forests
of the Zemplen, and you’ve got the classic autumn Hungary tour!

Wild Goose Chase!

RETURNING TO OUR SCHEDULE. The western shore of the Black Sea ranks
among the best in the world for wintering wildfowl, including thousands of
White-fronted and Red-breasted Geese. We visit in late November, when huge
numbers of birds gather to seek refuge from the frozen marshes of northern
and central Asia. Our last group also enjoyed Pygmy Cormorant, Long-legged
Buzzard, Sombre Tit and roosting Long-eared Owls, not to mention a
rewarding boat trip in search of Dalmatian Pelican and White-tailed Eagle.
