NEW! There are a host of summer butterflies in the beautiful Dordogne<br />
region of southwest France, and mid-June sees peak numbers and diversity<br />
of species. For lepidopterists, it makes for an enjoyable ‘stepping-stone’<br />
between the UK’s butterflies and more exotic ones further south. Many are<br />
easily seen and include: Blue-spot, Sloe and Ilex Hairstreaks; High Brown,<br />
Heath and Marbled Fritillaries; Safflower and Red-underwing Skippers;<br />
and Adonis and Provençal Short-tailed Blues.<br />

of Lammergeier, Griffon Vulture and Snowfinch, plus up to 70 butterfly species.<br />
At this time of year, the Pyrenean plants can be wonderful - as can the<br />

NEW! Madeira rises sharply out of the Atlantic, its deep-water coastline<br />
being home to many species of seabird, including Roseate Tern, and Cory’s<br />
and Little Shearwaters, but also the threatened Freira-da-madeira or Zino’s<br />
Petrel. The island’s lush, tree-covered slopes host numerous interesting forms<br />
evolving in isolation, such as Madeiran Chaffinch and the endemic Madeiran<br />
Firecrest. Includes a boat trip to the Desertas Islands for a chance of Desertas<br />
Petrel as well as Europe’s rarest mammal, the Mediterranean Monk Seal.<br />
