REAL ESTATE LICENSURE COURSES<br />

150-Hour Real Estate Brokers Program<br />

Career opportunities for licensed real estate<br />

brokers range from owning and operating a<br />

real estate office or managing the branch office<br />

of a real estate company to overseeing real<br />

estate operations for a corporation or working<br />

for a developer. To be eligible to apply for the<br />

<strong>New</strong> <strong>Jersey</strong> real estate broker examination,<br />

an individual must have worked as a licensed<br />

real estate salesperson for at least the past<br />

three years and must complete 150 hours<br />

of pre-licensing education. The educational<br />

requirement is met by completing three courses:<br />

the 90-hour “General Core” course, which<br />

must be completed first, and two 30-hour<br />

courses: “Ethics and Agency” and “Office<br />

Management.” Those who successfully complete<br />

all three courses may submit an application for<br />

the real estate broker examination to the <strong>New</strong><br />

<strong>Jersey</strong> Real Estate Commission. Examination<br />

eligibility is determined by the Commission.<br />

NCD912/3326-90-Hour General Core<br />

This course covers <strong>New</strong> <strong>Jersey</strong> licensing law,<br />

rules and regulations of the <strong>New</strong> <strong>Jersey</strong> Real<br />

Estate Commission, estates in land, ownership<br />

and co-ownership relationships, dower and<br />

courtesy rights, governmental restrictions,<br />

liens and encumbrances, contracts, mortgages<br />

and financing, environmental regulations and<br />

issues, appraisals, investment and business<br />

opportunities, discrimination laws, deeds<br />

and alienation of title, agency duties, and<br />

responsibilities to the consumer.<br />

Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays,<br />

September 4 through October 24<br />

Time: 6:00–10:00 p.m.<br />

Cost: $450.00, not including textbook,<br />

Principles and Practices of <strong>New</strong> <strong>Jersey</strong> Real<br />

Estate (available at NJCU’s bookstore)<br />

NCD913/3327-30-Hour Ethics and Agency<br />

This course covers the choices an individual has<br />

for representation as either a buyer or a seller<br />

and the duties and obligations of each role,<br />

fiduciary relationships, liabilities and penalties<br />

pertaining to disclosure, and the obligation of<br />

agents and sub-agents.<br />

This course covers the responsibilities involved<br />

in managing the operations of a real estate<br />

office, including hiring and firing agents, setting<br />

goals and productivity standards, recruiting<br />

and training, budgeting, accounting, escrow<br />

accounts, records, employment agreements, fair<br />

housing issues, discrimination, and office setup,<br />

policies, and procedures.<br />

Environmental Issues in Your Real Estate<br />
