INTRODUCTION TO TEACHING<br />

NCD291-Introduction to Teaching<br />

for Grades K-12<br />

The <strong>New</strong> <strong>Jersey</strong> Department of Education<br />

requires teaching candidates to complete this<br />

24-hour course before earning a certificate<br />

of eligibility (CE). Students receive 20 hours<br />

of instruction and independently complete<br />

four hours of classroom observation. Upon<br />

successful completion of the course, students<br />

are eligible to earn a CE, secure a teaching<br />

position, and begin an alternate route program<br />

to earn standard teaching certification. This is<br />

a blended course, involving at least two inperson<br />

meetings and online instruction using<br />

Blackboard. This course is part of the <strong>New</strong><br />

Pathways to Teaching in <strong>New</strong> <strong>Jersey</strong> program.<br />

NCD292-Introduction to Teaching for Grades<br />

Pre-K-3<br />

The <strong>New</strong> <strong>Jersey</strong> Department of Education<br />

requires teaching candidates to complete this<br />

24-hour course before earning a certificate<br />

of eligibility (CE) to teach pre-kindergarten<br />

through grade three. Students receive 18 hours<br />

of instruction and independently complete<br />

six hours of classroom observation. This is<br />

a blended course, involving at least two inperson<br />

meetings and online instruction using<br />

Blackboard. Upon successful completion of<br />

the course, students are eligible to receive<br />

a CE, which will allow them to apply for a<br />
