This trail provides an easy 700 metre walk for the entire<br />

family. Look for: Purple Martin and swallow nest boxes,<br />

osprey nesting platforms, green ponds for red-legged frogs<br />

and western toads, as well as ‘living’ bank stabilization wattles<br />

along the trail.<br />

*Note for wheelchairs: Trail surface is packed gravel.<br />

Steelhead Falls (Hayward Reservoir Trail)<br />

Trailhead just 0.6 km west of the landfill on Dewdney<br />

Trunk Rd, watch for BC Hydro Info Sign to parking lot. Rated Easy.<br />

Fraser River Heritage Park -<br />

East Mission Heritage Greenway<br />

<strong>TRAIL</strong> CODE<br />

From the BC Hydro parking lot, walk about 800 meters oneway<br />

through beautiful 2 nd growth forests and over unique<br />

bridges. Take the trail to the right and walk down to the viewing<br />

platform to admire the stunning falls on Steelhead Creek.<br />

Your return trip to the falls is about 1.6 km. If you feel up to a challenge, you can<br />

continue walking south along the reservoir trail. The entire trail is approx. 9 km<br />

ONE WAY, allow time to return to your vehicle before dusk when the gate is<br />

locked.<br />

Universal Access Trail—Starts at Fraser River<br />

Heritage Park (east end of 5th Avenue). Rated Easy.<br />

Stave Dam Interpretation Trail<br />

<strong>TRAIL</strong> CODE<br />

Mission’s newest trail circling the grounds of park, and then<br />

heading east through the forests, connecting to Jasper<br />

Street, in Hatzic. Depending on your route, it is about 3 km<br />

round trip. Cross some scenic bridges, and pass by St.<br />

Mary’s on your way. Hint: You’ll find the trail code near the<br />

bridge.<br />

<strong>TRAIL</strong> CODE<br />

Starts 1km west of the landfill on Dewdney Trunk Rd.<br />

Moderate difficulty.<br />

Hike 1.6 km through impressive 2 nd growth forests &<br />

around a 3 rd growth forest harvested in 1995. Remember<br />

to print out a trail brochure from the website to learn<br />

about Missions forests at the 10 interpretive stations.<br />

Have a snack at the top, looking down at Hayward lake.<br />

Red Mountain Loop Trail<br />

Starts 3km north of Dewdney Trunk/Keystone on west<br />

side of road. Moderate difficulty.<br />

<strong>TRAIL</strong> CODE<br />

Hike 600m bypass trail to the logging road, 700m along the<br />

road to the loop trailhead. The loop trail is 1.1 km and takes<br />

you up to some beautiful old growth Douglas-fir, protected<br />

from harvesting. Take the same route back to your vehicle<br />

for a total return trip of ~ 3.7 km. Follow the yellow arrows.<br />

*Note there are several unmapped trails in the area, keep to the marked trails<br />

*** Keep children and pets well back from the cliff edge at the top<br />

viewpoint, there are plenty of safe places to sit. Moss can be slippery.
