TIME-TELLING<br />
Jete awa kiiö?= What time is it now?<br />
how many/hours/now<br />
Jete awa ippam?= What time you got?<br />
how many/hours/with you<br />
There are four simple patterns of responses to the above two<br />
questions. The one used depends on whether the minute hand is:<br />
1.) exactly on the hour<br />
2.) past the hour<br />
3.) exactly on the half hour<br />
4.) before the hour.<br />
Examples are given below:<br />
1.) Juon awa kiiö.= It's now one o'clock.<br />
one/hour/now<br />
2.) Joñoullalem minit jän ruo awa.= It's fifteen past two.<br />
fifteen/minutes/from/two/hours<br />
3.) Jilu jimattan awa kiiö.= It's now three-thirty.<br />
three/half-of/hours/now<br />
4.) Joñoullalem minit ñan emän awa.= It's fifteen 'til four.<br />
