IT’S ALL IN THE WAY YOU
LIVE YOUR LIFE
susan butcher
NVP
Independent Consultant, National Vice President
Susan Butcher Nation; Elizabethtown, KY
There is a saying, “Take time to smell the roses.” As I sit on my couch writing
this story, I am “taking time to watch my faithful dogs,” Cookie and Lilly. My older
dog, Cookie is asleep and Lilly, my 8-month-old Jack Russell Terrier, watches TV.
She cocks her head and moves her ears as she watches “Lassie.” I crack up! This
did not delay my story.
Eight years prior to Arbonne, I would have thought “what a waste of time” and if
I was reading it in a success story, I would think the woman is “nuts.” I discovered
the hard way that a lifestyle change was needed after living a driven life to
pursue a dream, or so I thought. I was promoted to the top of a company being
the top income-earner, then chronic pain stopped me on the “racetrack,” and I
took a hard look at my definition of success. We all have choices in life to make
things better. I chose to take advantage of the freedom and flexibility the wonderful
industry of network marketing can offer, and made the changes to become
healthy again.
Success means different things to all of us. I urge you to define what success means
to you. For me, success means knowing who I am and living the life I love of a balanced
lifestyle. My standards keep my boundaries in place, and I always expect
the best while I have fun. When my lifestyle took a positive turn, people began to
notice. Curious about my restored health, they began to ask me questions. Now,
I know my purpose comes from my heart’s deep desire to inspire and help others
to prosper in all areas of life.
Prosper means “to help on the road” or “to reach successfully.” I made the
discovery not to limit my soul’s prosperity by what was happening externally. We
all have tough times. But as we allow our souls to prosper in truth, love and
contentment, we will see prosperity take place in our lives from the inside out.
Arbonne came into my life and it was not my intention to make any
changes; I was only being a savvy consumer, wanting the products at a discount.
Did I know Arbonne would be the vehicle to prosper all areas of my
life? No. My vocation and Arbonne’s superior, six distinct product lines and
opportunity are ideal to offer others so that they also may prosper in all
areas of their lives.
I am careful not to use the word “career,” which comes from the Latin word
“cart,” and later from the Middle French word “racetrack.” Do we really
want to speed round and round for a long time, never getting anywhere?
That is why many professionals such as physicians, attorneys, CPAs, nurses
and many others may choose to get off the “racetrack” and choose network
marketing. The company becomes the vehicle to live out their purpose.
Arbonne is my vehicle.
Plus, Arbonne’s fabulous products are capable of producing results. For me,
it started with the Natural Balancing Cream. It keeps me physically balanced
as I age. I am 50, I am happy, and my skin does not give away my age.
Thanks to the NutriMinC ® RE 9 line.
Other products that made a big difference to me are the BefoRE Sun Made
in the Shade Self Tanner and Liquid Sunshine Tan Enhancer. I have a skin
disorder called Vitaligo, which means the skin on my entire body is losing
pigment. There are areas on my body that have no pigment, giving me the
appearance of white patches all over.
Casting a vision before someone is very powerful. Andy Stanley says, a
vision is what should or could be. I am reminded of my sweet husband’s
words only two months after I joined Arbonne. He was looking through
Accent on Actions, he looked at me and said, “I see you in this!” He cast a
vision for me and it came to pass. Six months later, our team promoted to
Region because of the quality of people. I was true to my definition of
success, and no longer on the “race track.” Now, two years later, my team
and I are a Nation.
After being promoted to Region, I was faced with leaving the other company
I worked with for 13 years. I left a substantial income and that was tough.
Then, my husband lost his job. All of this challenged and strengthened our
faith. He found a civilian job in Kuwait, supporting the troops and left two
weeks before the start of the war in Iraq. His new job replaced both of our
previous incomes. My husband is my hero. His heart’s desire was for me to
maintain a lifestyle that restored my health, instead of getting back on the
“racetrack” to supplement our income.
I believe in Arbonne’s compensation plan. Only 16 months from the day I
signed on as a Consultant, my income surpassed my previous earnings.
Wade is now retired at the age of 54, and my Arbonne business has given
him the potential to replace his income.
Now I can live out my life being on purpose because of Arbonne. Giving to
others is energizing and uplifting.
Arbonne has come to my rescue with the BefoRE Sun Made in the Shade Self
Tanner and Liquid Sunshine Tan Enhancer. It is pure, safe and it works for
I am very grateful for the support of my family. Wade, we are a true team
me. Before Arbonne, self-tanners made me sick because of the dyes and
whether there are several thousand miles between us or we wake up
chemicals they contain. Now, I confidently wear a sheer poncho with a
beside one another. Thank you for your vision and belief in me. I love you.
spaghetti strap tee, and have a great-looking tan. These are the results that
continued ...
people can get from Arbonne. It has the potential to change people’s lives.
success strategy:
Help people get clarity on the important things.
Susan “laying down on the job” with her Kentucky team.
To my boys, I am so proud of all of you and love you so much. Adam
Hollingsworth, you help me to be the mom you need and deserve by using
your gift of articulation. Thanks for bragging about me to your teachers at
school, it helped AM Sheila Clemons make contacts for Arbonne. John
Hollingsworth, you have found your calling. The sports and fitness clubs are
fortunate to have your entrepreneurial spirit on board. You already are making
more money than guys out of college. Brian Hollingsworth, my oldest
son, you are a leader, a great guy and I am so proud of you pursuing your
dream to be a mechanical engineer. Lynn, thanks for loving my son and
being my partner and friend. My bonus daughters, Carrie and Jenny, you
exhibit great courage: Carrie, to discover your son, Isaac, had juvenile diabetes
at only 2 years old and now have the confidence to care for him, is
amazing. Jenny, the peace and grace you showed while you cared for your
dying daughter for one month after her birth is admirable. You said to me,
“I can do anything now!” And now, you will soon give birth to another
daughter, as you continue to raise your 3-year-old son, Dillon, while your
husband is in Iraq.
My partners in Arbonne are the best. RVP Cheryl Yesberger, as iron sharpens
iron, so do we as friends and partners. RVP Maddy Nichols, you trusted
me when I said, “Now is the time to start with Arbonne.” With no experience
in network marketing, you promoted quickly to AM. You both are loving,
kind and gracious leaders whom I admire and appreciate. I am humbled
to have you both as close partners.
My team teaches me so much, and because of them we are a Nation. EAMs,
say, “Keep believing in the products, company, industry and yourself.”
To my awesome leaders and upline, ENVP Neta Irwin, ENVP Cecilia Stoll,
ENVP Deanna Herrin and my sponsor ERVP Cleary Clarke-Maly: Thank you.
How could I not be successful in Arbonne having you ladies as my support
and example? Thank you, Deanna for believing in me when you said, “You
are working smart, not hard!” It meant the world to me when I was going
through tough times personally.
To President Rita Davenport: You are a genius. The Arbonne Learn and Burn
interviews you conduct with best-selling authors are brilliant. As a former gifted
talk show hostess, you conduct interviews showing us the value of working in our
strengths and having fun. You are brilliant and thank you.
Thank you to my mentor, Dr. Lentz, who told me that we are not human beings
having a spiritual experience. We are merely spiritual beings having a human
experience. Jillian Middleton, I thank you for the last five months. Your intuitive
coaching has given me insights along with great tips that work in this
industry. You rock.
I am thankful for knowing a living, loving God who wants me to live the life He
intended and that I love! Thank you Arbonne and Founder Petter Mørck for
your vision!
