BUILDING DEPARTMENT HARWOOD HEIGHTS<br />

INSPECTION<br />

To receive a certificate of occupancy, buildings shall be inspected<br />

to include, but not limited to, the following:<br />

01. 100-amp service<br />

02. Smoke alarms<br />

03. Electrical outlets and switches<br />

04. Water leaks in basement, around ceilings, windows<br />

05. Washrooms for hot & cold running water, proper drainage<br />

06. Wiring for overloading of extension cords, location of cords and<br />

cords under carpeting<br />

07. Location and placement of garbage containers, overall sanitation,<br />

roaches, insects, mice and other pests<br />

08. General appearance of exterior for visible structural defects, peeling<br />

paint, missing numbers, broken windows<br />

09. Function of heating unit<br />

10. Carbon monoxide and gas leaks using testers<br />

BUILDING DEPARTMENT NORRIDGE<br />

INSPECTION BUILDING PERMITS<br />

Any property that is being sold or transferred to another person must<br />

have a Real Estate Inspection. This inspection includes checking if the<br />

property is used as it is zoned, and that the proper smoke & carbondetectors<br />

are installed. The inspection must take place within 30 days of<br />

the closing. Upon approval, the seller must pay the final water bill and<br />

then a Real Estate Inspection Certificate will be issued. This certificate is<br />

taken to the closing on order to record the sale.<br />
