Another exciting change at Lockwood
is our new Marketing Department.
Laura Fitzgerald heads up the team
with Steve Shubnell. Our focus is commercial
and technical marketing.
Crazy busy (as we all are), but we’re
developing some basic marketing materials
such as product line sheets, reference
list, and leave-behinds for our
sales force. Koleta Parsley is working
closely with the team coordinating
print jobs and teaching us plenty. We
will soon begin revamping our website
(you will love the plans we have).
The Valve Identification book is receiving
its third remake and you will all
enjoy the CAD drawings that Luca
Radrizzani has helped Lockwood acquire
( ).
We’re getting to know the branches
and appreciate the feedback and insight
we’ve received. The more we
know, the better we can help Lockwood.
We visited with Judy Collier, Lockwood’s Facilities Manager to catch up on her
happenings. Judy has been very busy since joining Lockwood in 2007 beginning
with the big move into the new building. Now, she is concentrating on renovating
Buildings A & C. Although A is finished, as Betty reported, Building C is
still a couple of months away from having coffee service ordered! She will be
lending her expertise traveling to other branches to implement projects and
improvements.
Locally, Judy has been responsible for the new security system which involved
more than the obvious - picture ID badges for every employee, setting up entry
credentials, passwords, etc. The great benefit of the new system is security
for our people and property. Eventually, the
system will allow for time tracking (YES - no
more time sheets) but right now its our key to
get in and our proof that we belong here (badges
must be worn and visible at all times). The
administration of the system will be handed over
to HR once all the kinks are worked out.
Furthermore, Judy has started Lockwood’s recycling
program. All empty toner cartridges and
aluminum cans are being collected and she is
working with Furr’s High School who will use the
proceeds to subsidize field trips, buy backpacks
and school supplies, as well as instructional
Judy Collier material not covered by the budget.
John Yonkman is now in charge of Material Management and we spent a few minutes learning about his team and
plans. His team consists of Aladdin Hussein, Vince Veloz, and Tony Galan.
Highest priority is implementation of cycle counting which will, in theory, eliminate
year-end inventory (do I hear a “YES!”). As with all change, it will take time
but he has big plans and high hopes that this will bring our inventory into focus as
accurate. The new system will also allow for discovery of current material handling
problems to reduce risk of error. The plan is to implement in Houston and work
through any problems before rolling it out to all of the branches. John is looking at
all possibilities and although he may not have THE answer, he feels trying different
variances will allow for THE solution to become apparent. He is calculating
John Yonkman
the redesign of the warehouse which, once in place, should further reduce the risk of errors.
It will allow less product expertise to be expected by warehouse personnel and a
more intuitive process on how to pull and track product.
Our group spent a week in Palm Desert, California attending the
TUG (The User Group) annual User-to-User Networking and education
conference for Users of Infor Distribution Software. As
you know, Lockwood uses APLUS, which is a family of Infor’s
product offering. Our people came back excited and educated.
Those who attended include Alan Walls (IT Manager), Renee Roberts
(AS/400 Training Specialist), Donna Wells (Operations Manager),
and Adam Adams (Report Specialist). Renee relays that she
participated in labs, sat in on multiple training sessions and networked
with many users who she will collaborate with to further
help Lockwood optimize our performance. According to Alan,
“this conference gave us an opportunity to participate in the improvement
process of the software, learn new solutions to approach
various APLUS issues; and most importantly, meet and
discuss with other APLUS users about their company’s issues and
solutions, as they’ve tried to improve their business. We all came
back educated and inspired.”
