IAESTE Malta has also been involved in a
number of twinnings, the latest one being with
the local committee of Bergen, Norway in
February 2002.
2004 has also been a very important year for
IAESTE Malta, with our country being chosen
as the venue for the General Conference in
2006. This of course will be a great honour for
our committee, and we will do our utmost to
make the GC 2006 as memorable as possible.
In conclusion I would like to thank all the
member countries and co-operating institutions
who have helped in any way during these past
twenty years. I would also like to thank all the
Like many other countries which were
embodied in the former USSR, Ukraine became
independent in 1991. So much has changed in
our country since then. And one of the logical
consequences of that historical turning point
for our country was the creation of IAESTE
Ukraine. It became possible just three years
after the proclamation of independence, in
1994.
So we are already 10 years old.
What has changed during the years of our
activity?
First of all the subject matter of practice has
changed. Practice connected with physical
labour has turned into one filled with
intellectual power. A traineeship nowadays
comprises an exchange of the latest knowledge
and achievements.
On the other hand modern civilization
attributes, such as television, satellite means of
communication, and the global internet
network make this kind of exchange in a
matter of seconds. But a human being is a
social creature and that is IAESTE, which meets
the essential demand of Homo Sapiens for
communication!
Meetings, exchange of opinions, having
disputes, setting and solving problems together,
presentation of the trainee’s country in order to
create a better relationship and understanding
are some of the numerous tasks of IAESTE
Ukraine. By owning an idea you seem to be
well-off. And it is true. But after you exchange
ideas you become twice as rich as before.
During our 10-year experience we have
understood the truth that knowledge through
exchange becomes even more effective if it is
backed up with cultural exchange.
Coming into the country, meeting its people,
traditions, and cultural heritage you open a
past committee members of our National
Committee, without whom obviously IAESTE
Malta would not have
survived. And finally
I would like to thank
all those countries
who have exchanged
with us over these
years, so that IAESTE
Malta can continue to
be the most successful
exchange programme
on the island.

IAESTE Ukraine : A Decade of Exchange
new world, broaden your outlook, and make
new friends.
IAESTE Ukraine has some rich experiences in
both technical-scientific and cultural kinds of
exchange.
Exchange programme students who come to
our country find a variety of landscapes from
the Crimean Steppes and semi-tropics, to the
picturesque and original world of the
Carpathian mountains, while impressed by the
hospitality and good nature of the Ukrainians
and finally the delicious healthy Ukrainian
cuisine.
Ukraine has a lot to offer everybody who comes
to our country. We are open for the exchange.
We are ready to make your stay here
unforgettable and fruitful. IAESTE Ukraine has
got potential!
During the years of our existence we have
accepted more than 600 trainees from almost
all countries of the world. We are proud that
their memories, which you can read in our
magazine IAESTE Ukraine Student, prove all
that is mentioned above.
We are a worthy part of the global IAESTE
team. We are looking back with pride yet we
are optimistic and hopeful about the future.
We are only 10 years old!
We would like to express our most sincere
gratitude to Professor Abdallah Sfeir (IAESTE GS
1992-1998) and Mr. James E Reid (GS 1998-
2004) for their efforts to promote the
organisation worldwide. We highly appreciate
their valuable and fruitful ideas to provide
unhampered scientific information exchange
and herewith to lay the foundation of an open
society.
We wish to thank all members of the big
IAESTE family for their co-operation and good
relationship over the years.
