Welcome to IAESTE
IAESTE Netherlands moves to Nuffic
Since the foundation of IAESTE in 1948 until
last year, the National Secretariat of its Dutch
branch had been located within the university
in Delft. But in the spring of 2003 Nuffic and
the Delft University of Technology agreed that
in light of the purpose and activities of the two
organisations, the National Secretariat of
IAESTE would be more at home within Nuffic,
in The Hague. Nuffic’s full name is Netherlands
Organisation for International Co-operation in
Higher Education. IAESTE Secretariats are
situated within National organisations of this
type in many countries. In the UK the IAESTE
office is part of the British Council, for
example. In Germany the host organisation is
DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer
Austauschdienst), in Finland it is CIMO (Centre
for International Mobility), and in Sweden it is
IPO (International Programme Office).
The IAESTE reins were officially handed over to
Nuffic on 3 September 2003, in the presence of
former General Secretary James Reid. Elsa van
der Kooi who had been National Secretary since
1994, was succeeded by Olga Marschal.
Olga Marschal and Heleen Ravenhorst are
together responsible for the IAESTE office in
the Netherlands. Both work part-time;
nevertheless, the office is open five days a
week. Both are already enjoying their
interaction with IAESTE colleagues.
Good News for IAESTE Australia
Because of increasingly closer links with
Swinburne University of Technology where we
are a hosted organisation, we have now for the
first time some part time help from the
Education Abroad Office in Swinburne. So we
are pleased to introduce to the IAESTE family
Karen Docking who will be working with us for
half a day per week.
Also, because of our gradual growth, we are
now able to employ someone for 2 half days
per week. From over 50 applicants we have
selected Juliet Eardley to help us and we are
delighted to welcome her too.
As well as this IAESTE Australia now has a new
address within Swinburne and we are now
housed on the 9th floor of the Business Arts
building which has just been completely
refurbished. So Karen, Juliet and Jacki are
getting used to a new and cheerful colour
scheme which includes grey, magenta and
yellow and are doing a special course to learn
how to drive the new computerised telephone
system. However after the trauma of moving
the office three times within four months, they
are all pleased that things are now settling
down and we hope to provide an even better
service than before.
