Exchange Development in 2003
The total number of trainees exchanged in
2003 was 4633, 284 fewer than in 2002.
However 14 members and 11 co-operating
institutions managed to increase their number
of traineeships to incoming students and this
was very encouraging.
Table 1 shows the number of trainees
exchanged in 2003 and compares this with
placements for the previous four years and the
total average trainee months.
Table 2 shows the
training periods for 2003
with 46% of students on
placements of 6-8 weeks
while a further 26% of
students went for a
period of less than 3
months.
Table 3 The number of trainees to benefit
from long-term placements represents just over
25% of total placements in 2003. This aspect of
the exchange has been in decline since 1999
(the first year to collect these figures).
